180 House is home to an expansive art collection, which explores portraiture, the impact of the pandemic and London’s cosmopolitan character

The Soho House art collection at 180 House, comprising of 157 artworks, is a reflection not just of the London art world, but it also draws on living history through its presentation of work relating to the 2020 pandemic lockdown. Curated by Global Director of Art, Kate Bryan, the collection is a unique capsule of both emerging and museum-level talent who work and live in the capital.

The rooftop has a large double wall installation of 70 artworks created during the global pandemic, featuring scenes and messages as diverse as: queues to buy guns in middle America (David Risley); socially distanced queues for the supermarket in the rain (Christabel Blackburn); BLM protest imagery (Danny Augustine); dancing as an act of resistance (Kemi Onabule) and poem paintings such as ‘if you like you can just snog me and then drop me off at the hospital’ (Gommie). United by being created in difficult circumstances, each work is framed in a bright colour as a reminder of our collective refusal to submit and to seek rainbows.

On the eighth floor, Soho Self is a collection of self-portraits by an international line-up of artists, which was assembled while on tour as part of the Cities Without Houses events programme. Now retired from touring, the 20 works include traditional figurative paintings or drawings by artists such as Tai-Shan Schierenberg and Maggi Hambling, as well as conceptual approaches to identity from Richard Winkworth and Reba Maybury.

The collection also features several museum-level, stand-alone pieces including works by Donna Huanca, Marilyn Minter, Angela de la Cruz, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye and Megan Rooney. Artists who joined the collection for the first time include: Yinka Ilori, Alexandria Coe, Richard Rawlins, Ryan Driscoll, Juliana Huxtable, Jemima Kirke, and Cherelle Stapleton.
