Soho House White City House Art Page

The art collection at White City House responds to the building’s history as the former BBC London headquarters and was curated in 2018 by Global Director of Art for Soho House, Kate Bryan

The White City House art collection, curated in 2018 by Global Director of Art for Soho House, Kate Bryan, consists of works selected solely in response to the building’s history. Specially commissioned pieces include Archie Proudfoot’s ‘Test Card Girl’ and ‘Matter Of Time’, Chris Levine’s taken on the iconic BBC Play School windows, and the first light-based work in the Soho House collection, as well as works by George Henry Longly, Nathan Coley, Mary McCartney and Ben Kustow that reference the BBC. Peter Blake created a series of editions in his signature collage style paying homage to Television Centre stars, which are displayed in reception and in every bedroom. Other key works include a diptych by Julian Rosefeldt that references soap operas, a site-specific painting installed in a niche by Claudia Comte and an artist rug influenced by the test card by Lucy Gough.

‘Dear Tony Hart’ on display in the eighth-floor events space honours the late TV presenter (1925-2009) who inspired many generations throughout his 50-year broadcasting history, with all new work by David Shrigley, Fiona Banner, Gavin Turk, Gillian Wearing, Jeremy Deller, Joanna Kirk, Julie Verhoeven, Keith Tyson, Mark Wallinger, Mat Collishaw, Michael Landy, Polly Morgan, Prem Sahib, Rachel Howard, Ruth Ewan, Ryan Gander, Sue Webster, and Thomas Heatherwick. Hart’s programmes, Vision On, Take Hart and Hartbeat encouraged children to send in their artwork for selection and display on television. The artwork was never returned, but successful young artists would receive a book token in payment of their submission.

In 2021, Alice Browne was invited to complete a mural in situ on the large mirrored dining area on the ninth floor.
