Soho House West Hollywood
The art in Soho House West Hollywood tells the rich and complex story of the Californian art scene, its masters and emerging talents
The art collection at Soho House West Hollywood is formed of artists born, based or trained in Los Angeles. Refreshed entirely in 2023 by Kate Bryan, Soho House’s Global Director of Art and Art Collection Manager, Anakena Paddon, the only exception to the LA remit is a work originally installed by curators Jonathan Yeo and Fru Tholstrup when the House opened in 2010 by British artist Harland Miller – ‘This Is Where It Is At, Or At Least It Used To Be’.
Key works in the new hang feature historic figures of the Californian art scene, such as Ed Ruscha, Ed Kienholz, Judy Chicago, and the late artists John Baldessari and Billy Al Bengston. Works by a younger generation of museum-level talent include original pieces by Hebru Brantley, Parker Ito, Alexandra Grant, David Horvitz, Hilary Pecis, Muna Malik, and Walead Beshty. Artists joining the collection for the first time include Athier Mousawi, Farrah Karapetian, Lila de Magalhaes, Marta Klara, Samantha Thomas, Manuel López, and Tidawhitney Lek.
