Electric House

Taking inspiration from a much-loved artwork by Julian Opie, the Electric House Outline collection is formed by 50 artists whose work spotlights the primacy of lines, and plays with the concept of negative and positive areas

The Electric House art collection, previously curated by Francesca Gavin, was refreshed by Sara Terzi, Soho House Senior Art Collections Manager, in summer 2023.

The House features three site-specific commissions. In the Snug, Charlotte Edey has created a new series of works based on Clotho, the Greek mythological figure who spun the thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle and, in doing so, decided the fate of humans.

The parallel between line and thread expands across the room in the drawings, rug and TV cover made by the artist. For the dining room, Anousha Payne painted four large-scale canvases that expand on her ongoing fascination with storytelling and Indian folklore, with mysterious characters in elongated forms that appear to be resting from their feats. In the Library, Martha Hviid has created a work on carpet featuring a paper plane in motion, as if moved by the heat of the fireplace above which it is displayed.

Key artworks in the new hang include artists like Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Monica Bonvicini, Godfried Donkor, Mary Evans, Donna Huddleston, Allison Katz, and Caragh Thuring.
