Introducing Get To Know, a new series that spotlights some of the most exciting musicians in the industry. For our first episode, Rinse FM DJ and Shoreditch House member Jyoty talks to the Grammy award-winning artist and singer Thundercat ahead of his turbocharged performance at 180 House.

When asked what we can expect from his performance at the House, Thundercat’s reply is remarkably applicable to what you can expect from our audio interview with him: ‘You know that moment in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 when you get all six of the chaos emeralds, and you press any button twice and he jumps up and goes supersonic? That.’

The two-time Grammy award-winning bassist and singer came down hot off his surprise gig at Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here Festival in Cambridgeshire at the weekend. It was his first show outside the US since winning the Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album for his 2020 release, It Is What It Is

Before playing some of the biggest tunes from his album, the singer dropped into our House Studio to talk all things Thundercat – from his favourite Soho House food and custom Muay Thai shorts to Yasuke and a potential collaboration with Jamiroquai (you heard it here first).
