In need of a restorative break, a change of scenery or want to swap out traditional festive vibes for something more exciting? These six destinations will do the trick

Wednesday 23 November 2022       By Anastasiia Fedorova

We’ve all felt the urge to run away: to walk away from a work desk, set off to the airport on a random weekend, or make an adventure happen with no prior arrangements. Maybe this winter is the time to finally give yourself permission to embody this sort of main character energy and gracefully disappear into the sunset.

After all, holidays mean different things for different people: whether it’s reuniting with family and treat your loved ones to well-deserved luxuries (we’ve got gift guides for that), reconnect with yourself or even catch up on work projects (I’m looking at you, 24/7 freelancers). We’ve rounded up six destinations that are great alternatives to the hardcore lounging in PJs you’d otherwise be doing at home over this period. From LA and Berlin to Mumbai, we’ve got beaches, countryside, party and design destinations to explore – the choice is yours.

For a countryside digital detox: Babington House
A 30-minute drive from Bath in the UK, Babington House is located in a 1705 Grade II-listed manor and surrounded by 18 acres of English countryside. It’s the ideal place to (temporarily) throw your phone away and enjoy chilly countryside walks, relaxing by the fireplace in the Library and hitting the original Cowshed spa for massages and rejuvenating treatments (salt scrub is a favourite). Despite being well-connected, the House has a calming atmosphere of a remote country mansion where you can totally unwind.

As a mid-century-style temporary home: Holloway House in Los Angeles
Holloway House was inspired by LA’s mid-century art design scenes – around the time when David Hockney created his renowned pool paintings. This winter, you too can choose to embrace the Southern Californian landscape, 1960s artistic heritage, and pools. With warm tones of sand and stone, bright accents of burgundy leather and spacious light bedrooms, Holloway House is great for extended stays.

For reinventing yourself: Soho House Nashville
Are you ready to start a completely new life in Nashville, just like supermodel and musician Karen Elson? Let’s pretend that you do, even if only for a week. Nashville has a rich history of country music, alongside a burgeoning art movement, independent stores and a contemporary food scene. Have you got an EP, novel or painting in you? The spacious industrial-style Soho House Nashville would be a good place to start. Located in a former sock factory built in the early 1900s and known for producing hosiery for astronauts, the House is decorated with Bauhaus-inspired geometric patterns and fitted out with fixtures that pay homage to the building’s history. With three indoor and outdoor performance spaces, it thrives on creativity.

For 24-hour party people: Soho House Berlin
If you’re the one chasing indulgence, look no further: Berlin is your go-to city to get lost in. Whether you want to spend 24 hours at the techno temple of Berghain, try out something sensually adventurous at KitKatClub or explore kink with a refined soundtrack at a Klub Verboten night, it’ll welcome you with open arms. Soho House Berlin, set over eight floors of a restored Bauhaus building near Alexanderplatz, has everything you need: extra comfy king-size beds, and a steady supply of Cecconi’s pizzas and Espresso Martinis. Also a pool, gym and juice bar when it’s time to detox.

For a beach-side reset: Soho House Tel Aviv, Jaffa
Are you a victim of a vitamin D deficiency dreaming of waking up to the gentle sound of waves? Soho House Tel Aviv, Jaffa is your sanctuary overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Located in a turreted building dating back to 1883, it features an outdoor dining and lounge space dotted with 300-year-old olive trees and a swimming pool. Did we mention the city’s culinary delights? Don’t even get us started.

For new perspectives: Soho House Mumbai
Looking for a complete reset of all plans and senses? Soho House Mumbai is ideal for both partying and contemplating. Overlooking Juhu Beach, the 10-storey House offers floor-to-ceiling windows and bedrooms with sea views, plus block-printed fabrics from Rajasthan and interiors that reflect the rich culture of the city – but, most importantly, the diverse and welcoming community of Mumbai creatives to get acquainted with.
