Zipeng Zhu

A man looking up from behind on a city street

The Chinese-born designer and Dazzle Studio founder discusses his top five wardrobe staples

His clients include Apple, adidas, Adobe, Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Twitter, Netflix, The New York Times, Harry’s, Viacom, The New Yorker, Fox, Away, Animal Planet, CNN, MTV, Refinery29, Chobani, and Samsung. And his work has been exhibited in cities around the world, from New York to Shanghai. Zhu now also runs a creative studio, Dazzle Studio, and gift shop, Dazzle Supply, which both aim to ‘make every day a razzle-dazzle musical,’ he says.

Below, he takes us through his daily uniform with the five items he can’t live without.

The glasses
‘The most important item for me is my Theo Eye-witness glasses. I can’t see without them, but I also feel more complete once I put them on. Funny story: the reason I bought this pair is because they have little numbers inspired by the connect the dots game. How wonderful is that?’

The hoodie
‘My second favourite is the Dazzle Supply Star Hoodie that I designed. I love it because it’s the first item I designed for myself and it’s my official work uniform. I can’t work without it.’

The watch
‘I love my Apple Watch. I probably love it more than my phone and it has definitely made my life slightly healthier – they are not paying me to say that.’

The keyring
‘My JW Anderson keyring is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. I don’t think more explanation is needed – just look at it.’

The shoes
‘I can’t believe my Allbirds Dashers are the only shoes I wear, even though I own more than 80 pairs of shoes. But they’re just so comfortable and not ugly looking.’
