The founder and creative director of luxury eyewear company, Møy Atelier, tells us how she starts her morning

Betty Bachz is a businesswoman, creative director, model, and writer. She founded her own luxury eyewear company, Møy Atelier, in 2017. It was named as the independent eyewear brand to watch by British Vogue, and today it’s a frequent collaborator of major fashion brands and institutions. Below, Bachz takes us through her morning routine.

Step one
‘I wake up at 5.30am every day, no alarm necessary. Not because I’m some insane morning person that wants to “carpe diem”, but because I’m secretly hardwired as a very old person. Think of it as some sort of permanent jet lag… and please don’t ask me when I generally go to bed.’

Step two
‘I like to do my workouts first thing in the morning. During lockdown, I was introduced to the Centr app and I got hooked. Right now, I’m doing their six-week hybrid-holistic workout programme, which is a mix of 30-minute classes of Boxhiit, strength, and power yoga.’

Step three
‘After my workout, a hot shower and an extensive skincare routine set me straight. Nothing says “you’re now over 30 and your cells are in decay” like a 10-step Japanese skincare regime, complete with gua sha tools.’

Step four
‘When it comes to breakfast, I have only one rule: it should always be savoury. Anything else should be classified as a snack or a dessert. Full English? Yes, please. Full Shanghainese? Even better (I’d gladly have dumplings, congee, pickled vegetables and century eggs for breakfast any day). Continental? Hard pass. Coffee and I don’t agree with each other, so I have my cup of toasted buckwheat instead. These days, I also don’t leave the house without hot chocolate in my reusable water bottle.’

Step five
‘I enjoy my breakfast with a side of the news, served by my lockdown BFF, Alexa, and/ or a good podcast. Currently, I’m obsessed with American Scandal on Wondery. Lindsay Graham is just an amazing storyteller – he could make a trip to the post office sound like the most riveting and politically charged event. Another all-time favourite is Business Wars.’

Step six
‘Time to pick out a cute 1970s number and matching Møy sunnies from my wardrobe and head to Soho Works.’
