A party playlist from New York DJ Alice Longyu Gao

New York member, DJ and artist Alice Longyu Gao shares a playlist of tracks to get you dancing at home
Alice Longyu Gao, the DJ and artist who last played at Soho House New York in January, should be on tour right now. Instead, locked down in LA, she’s attempting to keep us on the (makeshift) dance floor with a playlist that’ll make staying at home another weekend feel like you’re really not missing much at all.
Now, live on Spotify, the Quarantine Worldwide playlist covers everything from 100 Gecs’ ‘Money Machine’ and Gao’s own ‘Yung Piece Of Shit Shut Up’ to Selena Gomez’s ‘Look At Her Now’. And, although it’s come from the ‘emotionally unstable’ mood that Gao finds herself in, it’s filled with upbeat tracks and dance-floor fillers.
Even though Gao says she feels quite disconnected not being able to play live shows while taking time off the road to self-isolate, she’s turning to technology to stay sane. ‘I am relearning music theory through video courses so that I can be a better studio musician,’ she says. ‘And playlists and YouTube are keeping me connected with my fans. This situation breaks my heart, but I’m hopeful.’
To accompany her playlist, Gao recommends we drink some wine, get some snacks and welcome the weekend, no matter which room in your house that might be in.
