Soho Summer Stories: ‘I got engaged at Brighton Beach House’

As we continue to celebrate 60 Days of Summer, four members look back at the moments they’ll never forget

The summer months are special for so many reasons: sun-drenched days spent relaxing with friends, dinners that last well into the evening, music festivals and once-in-a-lifetime holidays – the list goes on.
For many of our members, some of their most memorable moments happen in our Houses. As we continue to celebrate everything that makes Soho House the place to enjoy the warm weather with 60 Days of Summer, we turned to them for their best summer memories. From live music to popping the question while overlooking Brighton Pier, these are the experiences they’ll never forget.

Yussef Dayes at Soho House Nashville
‘I saw Yussef Dayes play in the Secret Garden at Nashville last summer. Listening to jazz on a warm evening, surrounded by music lovers all being serenaded in sync… it’s a core memory of mine. I was only vaguely aware of Dayes prior to that performance, but the intimacy of the show – we were just a couple of feet away from the band – made me a devoted fan. His music is now a part of every playlist I make. When I think about that night, I’m reminded of how the programming at Soho House celebrates creativity, in all its forms. It’s alive and thriving.’

The big question at Brighton Beach House
‘Last August, my partner Zoltan and I met up with some friends at Brighton Beach House for a day of sunshine, cocktails and taking in the sea view from the pool. Unbeknown to us, we had both been speaking to those friends about proposing to one another. As we sat on the balcony of the House, watching the sunset, we turned to each other and confessed the conversations we’d had. It was now or never. I asked him if he wanted to marry me, and he said yes! A member of the team overheard us and we spent the rest of the night celebrating. It turned out that we were the first couple to get engaged at Brighton Beach House. A very special evening.’
