Meet the members who make our Houses their summer homes

Nobody ever really grows out of the excitement of summer. Between sun-drenched days and long evenings, there’s just something in the air during the warmer months. And our beachside Houses are the ideal spot to relax, with delicious al fresco dining spots, a menu of seasonal cocktails and picture-perfect surroundings to boot.

These are just some of the reasons why many of our members choose to set up shop in our Houses for the summer. We’re all about creating a ‘home away from home’ – and for these members, our clubs become just that: a welcoming place to relax, work and play before the hustle and bustle of ‘back to school’ season begins. Here, they tell us more about their favourite sunshine spots – and why spending the summer at Soho House is always a good idea.

Kenny ‘Tick’ Salcido 
As senior vice president and head of A&R for Red Bull Records, Kenny ‘Tick’ Salcido spends the season hopping between our West Coast Houses, soaking up the different vibes each location offers.

‘Spending my summers at the Houses is an experience like no other, especially on the West Coast. Great dining options, fun events, good service – it all helps to make the season special,’ he says. ‘Little Beach House Malibu is one of my favourites; it’s a really peaceful spot. The rooftop at Soho Warehouse has incredible views of the city skyline, and watching live shows there feels like being transported into a true art space. Soho House Holloway is a whole other vibe: I love seeing DJs play there when I want to party. For dining, it’s all about Soho House West Hollywood – the garden is perfect for al fresco dinners.’

James Layfield
For start-up founder and Soho Beach House Miami member James Layfield, the House – situated in a 1940s tower overlooking Miami Beach – isn’t just where he spends his summers, it’s also where he first met his fiancé.

‘What can I say: the magic of Soho Beach House Miami is real. I first met my fiancé when I was in the House working on my new venture, Awesomage. I was looking for connections to collaborate with on the Soho House app when I came across a fellow member, Brianna,’ he explains. ‘When she walked in to meet me it was love at first sight, and now we work together to reinvent orphanages around the world with Awesomage. We’ll always return to Soho Beach House – we’ve got a lot to thank that place for.’

Morgan Jones 
Though usually a London resident, Soho House member Morgan Jones spends her summers chasing the sunshine at Little Beach House Barcelona, returning each year for not much more than pure relaxation. 

‘The House is an essential part of my summer: workouts in the gym, the best brunch in town and, of course, that ocean. There’s something about the location that makes it feel secluded, peaceful and calm – if I’m lucky enough to get a sea-view bedroom, I love to listen to the sound of the water lapping on the shore from my bed. There’s nothing else like it,’ she says. ‘When I’m there, I don’t do much other than eating, sleeping and reading. The whole team is just wonderful. And the service – not to mention the food – is incredible.’

Simon McCabe
For Simon McCabe, director at Stella Furnishings and an Electric House member for 18 years, summer isn’t summer without a long stint spent on a lounger at Soho House Tel Aviv, Jaffa.

The House is situated in Jaffa – the city’s most dynamic and multicultural neighbourhood, with a maze of cobblestone alleyways that’s packed with ancient buildings and art galleries. 

‘Everyone at the House is so friendly and helpful, with superb service. I particularly like the leafy garden courtyard and pool area. The cocktails are gorgeous and the bedrooms have ultra-comfy beds. I can’t help myself and keep coming back every year.’
