Meet the members who give Soho House Austin life

As part of our US 20th anniversary celebrations, we meet a few of the people who bring substance and style to our Texan outpost
Saturday 9 September 2023 By Soho House
In 2021, Soho House Austin opened its doors on Music Lane, immediately accruing a community of local members who have since made the House what it is today. We’ve seen them refresh in the rooftop pool on hot summer days, drink Picantes on the wraparound terrace, and party to the state-of-the-art vintage sound system and DJs – surrounded by the eclectic art collection by 72 Texan-born and based artists woven throughout the club. Continuing our USA 20 celebrations the Soho House membership team selected a few Austin members to talk about what makes our first Texan House so great.
Read on to meet artist and creative director, Moyo Oyelola; super connector and entrepreneur, Thanh Pham; author and investigative journalist, Jonathan Langley; social impact entrepreneur, advocate and advisor, Anna Casey; writer, director and producer, Sarah Jane Murray, cofounder of High Desert Cactus Vodka and Midnight Venture Partners, Ryan Springer, PR and events expert, Cara Caulkins, and musician and DJ, Ashmar Triggs.

How long have you been a member?
‘Since Soho House Austin opened in 2021.’
Why is Soho House special to you? And what makes your US House unique?
‘It created a natural cadence to run into my now fiancé after meeting at a Soho House event at the George Washington Carver Museum.’
How do you spend your time at Soho House? Any standout moments?
‘I use the House as a centering point, especially after being away for any amount of time. The organic confluence of friends creates deeper connections, while new connections expand my creative horizons. It also serves as an outlet for my creative expressions through collaborations with Soho House.
‘My standout memory has to be the pre-opening party. The large number of friends in one space that night was actually overwhelming, in a good way, and a sign of what was to come. The weekend visit with members from Cities Without Houses was another great memory that led to us exploring Austin together.’

How long have you been a member?
‘Since day one when the Austin House opened in 2021.’
Why is Soho House special to you? And what makes your US House unique?
‘It’s an eclectic group of people that support each other and want to see each other succeed. There’s enough growth for everyone and we all want to collaborate. Soho House Austin has a wide range of events that expand your mind.’
How do you spend your time at Soho House? Any standout moments?
‘Every month, I host a talk on a specific topic to educate members on how to level up in life – whether it’s public speaking, mental health, hosting dinner parties or travel hacks. You name it, I’ve likely done a talk on it. It also provides a platform for members to share, because we have so many great people with a special gift that needs to be shared.’
