Earlier this year, we opened our first House in the City of Roses, bringing together a new community of Oregon-based creatives. Located in the Central Eastside district, Soho House Portland is set in the Troy Laundry Building and includes a gym, plenty of club space and, as of this month, a rooftop overlooking the city.
The design of the space takes inspiration from the industrial style of the rest of the House, blended with warm and comforting textures. Original features are softened with terracotta tones, blonde wood furniture and exposed brick flooring, finished with woven rugs.
Taking centre stage on the rooftop is the 62ft outdoor pool, perfectly positioned to capture the sun throughout the day. Featuring an infinity edge, it has views of the city and is surrounded by plenty of greenery, plus wooden canopy sunbeds – each with a drinks cooler for hot summer days. Nearby, there are gender-neutral changing rooms with showers, men’s and women’s locker room areas, and an additional industrial-style outdoor shower.

It’s not just the pool that makes the rooftop so special, though. There is also an open-plan lounge with bi-fold doors that open out to outdoor seating areas, as well as two indoor fireplaces, so that it can be enjoyed all year round. A rich wood and rattan bar is the focal point of this room where members can relax, spend time with other members, or have a glass of specially selected Oregon wine.
The rooftop has space for both indoor and outdoor dining, too. Be it morning, noon or night, the kitchen serves a mixture of Soho House classics, as well as dishes inspired by the Pacific Northwest, with ingredients sourced from local farms. In addition to this, there’s a terrace with comfortable lounge chairs and tables alongside two fire pits – ideal for cosying up next to as the sun begins to set.
