‘The House really set the tone for what was to come for members in the city,’ explains Jenna Webster, General Manager of Soho House West Hollywood. ‘The space is always buzzing, whether that’s with business meetings, celebrations or cosy, quiet drinks. It feels like a place where people come for inspiration for their next project – the Sitting Room is where many scripts have been written and the garden is where new creative partnerships have been born.’
There’s plenty more to explore around the House. Here, we highlight some of the club’s most special spaces loved by members.
The Sitting Room
For members looking to work in the House during the day, laptops can be used in the Sitting Room until 12.30pm each day. Webster recommends finding a seat in the south side of the space, where the bright sunlight floods in. Throughout the day, members relax on the comfy sofas or meet others in the creative industries to network over lunch – a House menu inspired by seasonal produce and Californian specialities is served in the space. As the sun sets over the Sitting Room, it really comes alive.
‘I love all the evening events programming we do, but my favourite is the weekly House Jazz nights,’ says Webster.
Wrapping around the north, south and west sides of the top floor is the terrace, where members can take in the sights of Downtown LA, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and beyond. During the day, it’s where members meet to discuss upcoming projects over coffee, and in the evening it’s one of the best spots to relax in the House.
‘If you’ve got a reservation for dinner in the garden, get to the House a little early,’ recommends Webster. ‘Grab a table here first and watch the sunset while enjoying a Picante and snacking on guacamole.’
The garden
The House is crowned with the rooftop garden – a special place where members meet to eat and drink from morning until night.
‘In the day, it’s used for work lunches under the warmth of the Los Angeles sunshine. In the evening, it has more of a party atmosphere,’ explains Webster. ‘On the north side, there’s an amazing view of the Hollywood Hills. To the south, you can see out over Downtown LA.’
Webster suggests ordering from the Garden Table lunch menu during the week; salads, soups and sandwiches are prepared using seasonal produce sourced from local farmers’ markets. As a result, the offering changes daily. From Wednesday to Saturday, the House welcomes a local sushi chef to prepare a special evening menu for members dining on the rooftop.
The grand staircase
With a palette of rich colours, herringbone wood floors and vintage furniture throughout, the House evokes a feeling of old Hollywood glamour. This is certainly true of the sweeping staircase, which connects the lower level entrance of the club to the Sitting Room.
‘It’s a showstopper moment in the House,’ says Webster. ‘As you climb the marble steps, you’re met with almost 360-degree views of the city – it’s really beautiful. Unsurprisingly, members love to take meetings sat the top of the staircase.’
Found on the top level of the club, just a few steps from the elevators, the pool table has been a mainstay of the House since its opening. As the working day winds down, members close their laptops and order a drink – the Espresso Martini is a House favourite – as they meet around the pool table to play and relax.
The screening room
With the House situated in the heart of Hollywood, the screening room is often used for industry events, as well as special member showings and panels with talent. During awards season in particular, the team will screen nominated films, often followed by celebratory drinks held in The Luckman Club, the House’s newest private event space. There are 50 seats in the screening room – each clad in soft red velvet – along with a bar cart and popcorn machine for on-hand snacks.
