Vanya’s opening night reception at Soho House New York

To celebrate the play’s much talked about Broadway transfer, we hosted the cast and crew on the rooftop

Back in 2023, Andrew Scott’s one-man reimagining of Anton Chekhov’s Vanya played to sold-out audiences night after night at London’s Duke of York’s theatre. Described as an ‘acting masterclass’ by critics and a ‘tour de force’ of Scott’s talent, it was only a matter of time before the production – which was adapted by Simon Stephens and directed by Sam Yates – transferred across the pond.

This week, the play opened off-Broadway. To celebrate this success, the cast and crew – plus a host of almost 300 guests from across the industry – joined us at Soho House New York for the opening night reception. Alongside Scott, Stephens and Yates, we were joined by the likes of actors Noma Dumezweni, Noah Centineo, Matthew Rhys and Ben Platt, as well as Cristin Milioti, and Big Little Lies star and Blink Twice director, Zoë Kravitz.
Up on the House’s rooftop, guests took in the city skyline, as they sipped on classic Negronis and Eastern Standards. Throughout the evening, we passed around mini spicy tuna tostadas, bruschetta with a balsamic reduction, and falafel with tahini and pickled red onion. Later in the evening, guests munched on mini Dirty Burgers and indulgent s’mores brownies.
