Naturalist. Twitcher. Don your fleece and get your twitching on at Soho Farmhouse

Excuse me, but can we just stop for a second to appreciate Chris Packham’s style?

‘Who the hell is Chris Packham?’ I hear you cry? Well, it’s high time you became acquainted with the naturalist – even Tom Hanks revealed himself as a fan of Springwatch when he was a guest on The One Show recently.

Whether or not you’re a stan of the long-running BBC Two wildlife series – which he co-hosts live every day throughout the season with Michaela Strachan and is notable for its bird banter, dodgy DIY demos and the (supposed) arrival of (slightly) warm(er) weather – you’ve got to respect the man’s commitment to fashion.

Yes, he’s stood in a muddy field in Norfolk. Yes, he’s having to explain to his legions of young fans why a badger has just eaten one of her cubs on live TV. But boy, does he look good doing it.

His style is best described as… Bold. Confident, even. Where a lesser man might play it safe with a navy puffer jacket, he embraces one in scarlet or lemon and pairs it with a corresponding colour-matched fleece underneath. It’s practical, yet considered. To quote one fellow staffer here at Soho House HQ: ‘He’s the epitome of how a modern man should dress.’

Blame gorpcore. Blame The North Face. Blame his gene pool (Packham’s sister is British fashion designer, Jenny Packham, a favourite of Kate Middleton – perhaps that’s the source of his sartorial power?). All we know is that Packham wore a Prada bucket hat the other day and the internet lost its sh*t.

Here’s how to get the look. Please try to contain your excitement.

The Prada bucket hat
Rihanna has one in spearmint. Mariah Carey’s is covered in crystals. Gigi Hadid prefers baby pink shearling. Now, the £480 accessory du jour has landed on Springwatch

Last Wednesday, Packham sported a classic black nylon version of the iconic headwear, with the Prada logo styled insouciantly to the side. Chic.

But Packham is no stranger to labels. In a 2016 interview with The Daily Mail, he described his biggest extravagance as: ‘shopping in Prada. I like expensive clothes.’ He’s also a fan of Comme des Garçons.

The puffer jacket
It may be called Springwatch, but this IS the UK, so a puffer jacket is essential to Packham’s outdoor attire. His go-to is no-nonsense technical brand Mountain Equipment. He rotates three: in scarlet, mustard and apple green.

The fleece
Or rather, fleeces, for he has many in his repertoire and it’s hard to select the best. He favours a funnel neck, always colour-matched to his jacket, and often with a snazzy contrast colour-pop zip. Head to Patagonia, The North Face or Finisterre to channel the vibe.

The hiking boots
Along with insulated outerwear, it should come as no surprise that sensible footwear rates highly on Packham’s priority list. We’re yet to spot him repping the monogrammed version from Gucci’s cult collab with The North Face, but watch this space.

The cagoule
It’s fair to say Packham is a fan of camo. In fact, the naturalist has his own line of camouflage-print jackets and fleeces, designed in collaboration with Cotswold Outdoor. But Packham also knows that when it comes to standing out from the crowd, camo is not the answer. For that, you need animal print. Specifically, deer. Packham’s is from Burberry. Naturally.

The trousers
No offence, but we draw the line at the zip-off cargo hiking pants. Sorry Chris.
