Unveiling the first Design Prize Winner at Soho Warehouse
Our judges Yinka Ilori, Michele Oka Doner, and more join us at the LA closing ceremony to announcing the winner of the inaugural award
Uniqueness, simplicity, sustainability – these are some of the key design attributes the judges of the Soho House Design Prize 2021 have been looking for as they select the winner of the prize, which is to be unveiled tonight at Soho Warehouse in Downtown LA.
Soho House launched the Design Prize in partnership with Genesis Motor America in early 2021 with two main goals in mind: nurturing emerging designers, and sparking new conversations about the future of design. Over the past six months, we’ve received submissions from emerging designers across the world. Their ideas range from avant-garde furniture to light installations to fully immersive and interactive installations, with each proposal targeting a specific Soho House location. We created a mentorship programme that paired a shortlist of ten finalists with our industry-leading judges, to encourage an exchange of ideas, and to develop the designers’ practices.
Tonight, at a cocktail reception at Soho Warehouse in Downtown Los Angeles, we will be awarding one designer with the Soho House Design Prize 2021 award.
Our judges in attendance will include: Yinka Ilori; Michele Oka Doner; Eduardo Sarabia; Archi Lee Coates IV; Lucy Hardcastle; Alex Josephson; Soho House’s Head of Design, Candace Campos, and Head of Hyundai and Genesis’ Global Design Centre, Sangyup Lee. There will also be a performance by Sister Sledge.
The winner of the Design Prize 2021 will receive US$30,000 to bring their idea to life, with our support, and guests and members of Soho House will be able to enjoy the design in its intended location.
