Relocating from Austin for the first time, SXSW (South by Southwest) is heading to Sydney to host the iconic festival-meets-conference event. From Sunday 15 to Sunday 22 October, Soho House will take over The Old Clare Hotel in Chippendale, situated in the heart of Sydney and surrounded by art galleries and design studios.
Born in Texas, South by Southwest is dedicated to helping artists and entrepreneurs achieve their goals. It’s best known for celebrating tech, film, music, culture and education, featuring various showcases, film screenings and exhibitions, and providing opportunities for networking and professional development. Over the years, we’ve celebrated SXSW at Soho House Austin with a range of events loved by our members and guests. As the creative conference heads to Sydney – where we have a great Cities Without Houses community – it was only right that we went even bigger to mark the occasion and offer an exciting opportunity for Soho House members around the world.
During SXSW Sydney, the one-week Soho Residency will have three spaces, a ground-floor bar, a main restaurant and a rooftop pool and bar, where we will host daily programming and events. Members will be able to use the spaces like a House throughout the week, and attend daily events from creative mornings and industry mixers to House parties. And, thanks to our brand partners, including Bacardí, LVMH, Antler and Bowers & Wilkins, some of our favourite experiences in the Houses will find their way to Sydney.
Soho Residency will be accessible to members only – here’s what to expect:
Poolside House Party, Sunday 15 October
Kick off the week with a poolside House Party on the rooftop of The Old Clare Hotel, beginning at sunset with welcome drinks by Grey Goose.
Soho Rising: Connie Constance, Wednesday 18 October
Supported by Bowers & Wilkins, Soho Rising – our platform that champions emerging musical talent – is heading to Sydney for the first time. Enjoy an evening with the UK rising star, Connie Constance, who’s known for mixing nostalgic indie-rock influences with her trademark R&B.
Sunset Beats and Sips, Friday 20 October
Head up to the rooftop for a special sundowner, with glasses of rosé and rosé ice lollies by Whispering Angel to start the night.
One Night Only: Soho House Around the World, Friday 20 October
For one night only, you can enjoy a selection of our favourite dishes from around the Houses with an Aussie twist. Sharing our love for travel, we partnered with British travel brand Antler to curate a special dinner menu using ingredients from local farms.
Closing party, Saturday 21 October
Finish the celebrations on a high with our closing party. We’ll be taking over the entire Old Clare Hotel with three floors of diverse music programming, as well as a Moët & Chandon Champagne Bar and poolside Hennessy cocktails.
Expect more in the coming days, including a Secret Sounds and Soho Presents session.
For Soho House members and friends, we’re offering a special rate at The Old Clare Hotel, starting at AUD320 per night. Please email email@example.com with ‘Soho Residency SXSW’ in the subject line and a screenshot of your digital membership card. All hotel guests will have access to the events during their stay.
