Around the Houses: November in the UK, Europe and Asia

Around the Houses Asia

Last month’s events saw Soho House members in the UK, Europe and Asia partying to the sounds of Sarz and Obongjayar and DJ Sindhi Curry. But it wasn’t all hedonism and hangovers, with art markets and sleepovers on the events calendar too…

In November, our events calendar was jam-packed with festive dinners, book launches, art markets and soirees. There were drag nights in Mumbai, Turkish festivals in Berlin and live music for our Cities Without Houses members in Manchester. Scroll down for all of the action.

Tiny Art Market, Soho House Berlin

Members had a chance to fill their stockings with the wares of local female artists at our Tiny Art Market in Berlin. Visitors, including Amsterdam’s night mayor Shamiro van der Geld, admired the ceramics, artwork and woven tapestries on display by creatives such as Hanae Moreno and Limbo Laura. DJ Khadija was on hand to provide festive cheer, with a little help from the Bloody Marys, of course.

Little Istanbul Week at Soho House Berlin

Soho House Berlin celebrated the city’s Turkish diaspora with a series of events and workshops that highlighted the country’s rich and colourful culture. From art classes by illustrator Esra Gülmen and a kitchen takeover by Alay Hasie to folk-fusion nights with music by Baris K and Murat Uncuoglu, members came together at the House for a five-day festival that was a true Turkish delight.

Soho Rising: Akemi Fox in Manchester

To the North, where Jamaican-British singer Akemi Fox soothed the city with her honeyed 1990s-era melodies at The Firehouse, which received a suitably festive makeover. There were some familiar faces in the crowd, with Cities Without Houses members John Thomson, The Blossoms and Christine Cort all present. Sure, there was a chill in the air, but nothing the heat of an Eastern Standard or Picante couldn’t thaw. After the gig, it was over to Dom Chung to carry the night into the small hours. ’Tis party season after all…

Sean and Seng dinner at Greek Street, London

Photography duo Sean and Seng hosted an intimate dinner at Soho House Greek Street to celebrate the release of their limited-edition coffee table book, Eyes That Look At The Sky, a photographic ode to the rugged landscapes of Easter Island, Chile. Guests, including Soho House Chief Content and Creative Officer Nabil Aliffi, chatted over wine, canapes and a dinner rustled up by Head Chef (and culinary wunderkind) Tom Ewer.

BoF VOICES at Soho Farmhouse, Oxfordshire

The Business of Fashion’s annual gathering of big thinkers returned to Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire this year. Over three days, a line-up of speakers including Dame Vivienne Westwood and Tommy Hilfiger set the agenda for the fashion industry and addressed global issues to a crowd including Kris Jenner, Indya Moore and Halima Aden. The conference closed with a gala dinner by Orasay founder Jackson Boxer, and was attended by models Jourdan Dunn and Neelam Gill, and fashion designer David Koma.

Sarz an Obongjayar at 180 House, London

Nigerian artists Obongjayar and Sarz performed to a packed-out rooftop at 180 House last month. The duo, who released their joint EP, Sweetness, earlier this year, brightened the room with their warm rhapsodies, husky flourishes and light falsettos. Soho House Content Director Olivier Geraghty was spotted in the crowd, among other guests. The drink of the night? Negronis, all the way.

Drag Night with Dirty Magazine at Soho House Mumbai

Drag and glitter were the two main ingredients for Soho House Mumbai’s LGBTQIA+ ball, which was hosted by Dirty magazine founder Kshitij Khankaria. The capital’s queer community took to the dancefloor for voguing and drama, which was soundtracked by local DJ Sindhi Curry and music collective Spacejams. Palomas were on the House, and there was food on offer by Head Chef Kunal Patkar.
