If you’re in need of a culture hit, Berlin should be top of your list. The German capital is a hub of creativity, home to countless artists, galleries and world-famous street art (think Dmitri Vrubel’s Fraternal Kiss on the Berlin Wall). All of which makes Soho House Berlin the perfect location for our first ever art retreat.

Running from Friday 22  to Sunday 24 March, this is an opportunity to immerse yourself fully in the Berlin scene, with an itinerary that includes a private tour of the acclaimed Boros Collection, a Q&A with Kate Bryan, Soho House Global Director of Art, and a portrait sitting with artists Daniel Marin Medina and Jai Mayhew.

The retreat begins on Friday afternoon with an art tour of Soho House Berlin. Hosted by Bryan, highlights include a site-specific installation by Damien Hirst, as well as works by esteemed local artists, including Claudia Comte, Nicole Wermers, Wolfgang Tillmans, Martin Eder, Jorinde Voight, Katja Strunz and Christian Jankowski. Enjoy drinks on the roof that evening, followed by a dinner of northern-Italian dishes at House restaurant, Cecconi’s.

After breakfast on Saturday, your portrait session – with Columbian-American artist and writer, Daniel Marin Medina, or multidisciplinary artist, Jai Mayhew – begins, followed by a private guided tour around the Boros Collection and its world-class presentation of international contemporary art, assembled by avid private collectors, Karen and Christian Boros. Located within the Friedrichstraße Imperial Railway Bunker, the tour takes you through both the display and the history of the building itself.

A Q&A with Kate Bryan awaits you back at the House. This is your chance to get the inside story on Soho House’s extensive art collections – which consist of over 8,000 works across 16 countries – as well as tailored tips and advice on how to get your artwork noticed, or how to display art in your own home.

Further inspiration awaits on your private tour of Fotografiska later that day. The Berlin branch of the renowned Swedish photography museum opened in an historic five-storey building in the heart of Mitte in 2023, and hosts exhibitions by some of the world’s leading photographers and contemporary artists. A private dinner in the museum’s restaurant, Verōnika, follows. Located on the fourth floor, expect to tuck into a diverse mix of dishes from Tempura Oysters to Cauliflower Milanese, alongside cocktails, including the popular Martini Tray.

Your final day starts with breakfast at the House, followed by a painting class hosted by German painter and sculptor, Tobias Vetter, who first found fame for his monochromatic tattoo artworks. Get hands on with your own practice after Vetter leads you through a theoretical introduction to colour theory techniques and you take to the easel to paint a still life of one of his sculptures.

You check out later that morning, fully armed with a greater admiration for Berlin’s extraordinary artistic scene, a portrait to treasure – and hopefully a new talent, too.

Sharing our values and travel ethos, we have partnered with our friends at Antler for Soho Retreats to offer you a unique way to experience our Houses. Everyone joining the retreat will be invited to choose a piece of perfectly crafted luggage from the British travel brand, which will arrive before you travel to use on future adventures.
