Inside Soho House Copenhagen’s Art Week, powered by Porsche
We celebrated all things creative at the House with an art-filled dinner, party, Q&A, and more
Tuesday 3 September 2024 By Chloe Lawrance
As August drew to a close, the art world arrived in Copenhagen for two of the industry’s biggest events: CHART and the Enter Art Fair. And nearby at Soho House Copenhagen, we welcomed members for our very own Soho House Art Week, powered by Porsche. Across three days, guests joined us for dinners, Q&As, art tours, and more.
We invited Danish artist and Soho House Copenhagen member Martha Hviid to create a temporary site-specific installation in the newly opened Wellness Studio. The installation revolved around how we subconsciously feel the world, centred on the concept of ‘hypnic jerk’, an involuntary twitch made by the body on the brink of falling asleep. This is believed to be a neurological leftover from when humans slept in trees, recalibrating the body’s sense of balance at its most vulnerable moment.
The work played with the idea of vertigo, showing a human silhouette hanging mid-fall, with disconnected body fragments twirling in all directions, landing in the form of pearly sculptures across walls and on top of carpets in the distinctive oxidised green used throughout the House.

Dreamers Art Week dinner
Through our partnership with Porsche, we strive to recognise and celebrate creative changemakers and dreamers, just like Martha Hviid – which is why we hosted an immersive celebratory dinner surrounded by her artwork. This allowed members to see her process and engage with the work as it came to life.
Everyone in attendance was handed a welcome cocktail, Petal to the Metal – a unique drink inspired by Porsche’s new colour for 2024, ‘Provence’. The dinner included a special performance by Danish musician and composer, ML Buch, and guests left with a keepsake paper fan hand-painted by Hviid, whose design was also featured on the tablecloth and menus.

House Art collection tour with Aaron Moulton
Curator Aaron Moulton from Creator Projects led members through a tour of the permanent Soho House Copenhagen art collection, which is made up of works by 38 artists born, based or trained in Denmark, with both emerging talent and museum-level artists featured. Throughout the tour, Moulton, who has held curator positions at the Gagosian Galleries and Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, elaborated on the artists, including their background and inspirations, as well as the works themselves.
Q&A with Martha Hviid and a Member Mixer
Members were given the opportunity to chat with the artist as part of a Q&A session, where she discussed her work, inspiration and career path. Afterwards, the audience and Hviid joined together for a networking mixer, during which members were able to meet fellow creatives and artists. They also took home complimentary Art Week tote bags with artwork by Hviid.
