Meet the winner of the Soho House Design Prize 2021

Soho House Design Prize 2021

Explore the future of design with emerging global talent and industry leaders, from Michele Oka Doner to Yinka Ilori

The Soho House Design Prize is an incubator programme that supports the world’s most talented emerging designers. In partnership with Genesis Motor America, we put out a call for new sustainable and unique design ideas that could be realised at one of our Soho Houses. The entries spanned everything from light sculpture and furniture to digital design and interactive installations.

In November, we threw an awards ceremony at Soho Warehouse in LA to showcase the 10 shortlisted designers’ ideas and announce the winner of the prize. At the party, Sister Sledge gave a live performance, and our judges – including artist Michele Oka Doner and British designer Yinka Ilori – got a chance to meet the designers they have been mentoring online.

The winner of the Soho House Design Prize 2021 was unveiled as LA-based designer, Zach Morgan, whose Sombra Umbrella design is an Art Deco-influenced update on the classic umbrella design. Integrated solar panels and LED lights turn an object that gives you shade in the day into an object that can create beautiful lighting by night. As the winner of the prize, Morgan’s design will be installed at one of our Houses, and he was awarded $30,000.
