As we approach the opening of Soho House Stockholm, our Head of Membership and Communications, Lil Lindqvist, shares five reasons why Swedes will love it

The Soho House Stockholm opening is just a few weeks away and we’ve been counting down the days with a series of pre-launch celebrations for our new local members – from a traditional hard hat dinner to a collaborative party with Vogue Scandinavia.

The new House, which is a former church in Majorsgatan, will be open to members from Monday 12 December, and our community of creatives in the city has already been growing. Last week, we introduced a line-up of new Committee members from the Swedish capital, all of whom expressed their individual excitement for actively representing Soho House in their hometown. But what exactly is it about Soho House that appeals to their way of life?

Here, our Swedish Head of Membership and Communications, Lil Lindqvist, shares five reasons why Soho House Stockholm is exactly what the city’s creative scene needs.

1. For access to a global network

‘Creatives in Sweden will love the international aspect and global community of Soho House. Swedish people in general are very curious, and love to travel and get to know different cultures and places – especially because Stockholm’s location is a little isolated from the rest of Europe. I believe that having a Soho House in town will bring a feeling of the rest of the world coming in a bit closer to us.’

2. For the diverse mix of members

‘Diversity is key to creating an interesting membership base of people, and we work hard on it. The common denominator is that you work in a creative profession, but otherwise we welcome members of all ages, with varying backgrounds, sexuality, ethnicity and personality types.’

3. For how it fits the city’s charm

‘Stockholm is special because of the mix of culture, nature and the city. I love the openness, creativity and curiosity of the people here – much like who the Soho House member is. There is so much beauty in the city, which consists of 14 islands and is surrounded by water, as well as forests and parks everywhere. What I also love is that each district in Stockholm has its own character – that’s what makes it a place where you won’t get bored easily.’

4. For the benefits

‘The benefits of being a Soho House member are endless. As well as being a part of a big global community of creatives from all over the world, you can make new friends and connections, and have a place you can call your “home away from home”. A place to learn, have fun, grow and make an impact.

Then there’s the building. This will be the first House to open in a church. The huge organ remains inside and rises majestically in the heart of the building, which truly makes it a beautiful place to be.’

5. For connecting the city’s subcultures and communities

‘I’m often asked if Stockholm is big enough for a Soho House, and I probably thought that myself before I started working here. Now, I think a lot of members will be surprised at how many new interesting people they don’t know yet in the city; I know I was. I thought I knew everyone from my days running nightclubs in the city – especially because it can sometimes feel small. But in reality it’s not, and this is one of the biggest strengths of having a Soho House here – you will meet new interesting people in your own town.’
