Soho Secret Histories: Mexico City

We’ve been looking at sites in Latin America for some time now, so when we finally found what is now our House in Mexico City, it felt like a great place to start. Mexico City is a fantastic place for so many reasons: the culture, the food scene, the creative spirit. Not only do our global members love visiting, but we’ve also had a thriving Cities Without Houses community in the Mexican capital for years. 

As always, picking the perfect location for our members was key. The building we’re in is a restored historic casa in the heart of Colonia Juárez with a big, beautiful courtyard. It was first built in 1909 by a man named Don Diego Redo, who lived there with his wife María Teresa Vidal. It was later owned by a well-known local art collector for a while, who kept a really impressive collection there.

Now home to Soho House Mexico City, it was important for us to preserve as much of the original building as possible when transforming the space. We have all the classic Soho House signatures, like a big swimming pool, plus a pool house and three bars, one of which is a tequila bar. There’s also an underground vinyl listening room, where members can listen to records and hang out. Then there’s the design – the local team in Mexico City have done a really great job at incorporating locally made, custom furniture and vintage pieces in the House. And Kate Bryan (our Global Director of Art) and her team have secured an amazing art collection of more than 100 works from artists born, based and trained in Mexico. 

This House is just the start of our journey in Latin America, and we can’t wait to welcome you all to Mexico City soon.
