Situated on a calm stretch of Juhu Beach, Soho House Mumbai is an oasis among the hustle and bustle of India’s most populous city. But nothing about this House is boring. In fact, in the five years since it opened, our first outpost on the subcontinent has hosted parties, conversation-filled dinners and exciting events, all with our members front and centre.

So, as we mark five years of Soho House Mumbai, we’ve turned to those members to celebrate what makes the House just so special. Scroll on to discover some of their most memorable moments – from meeting their artistic heroes to enjoying unforgettable sunsets on the rooftop.

‘I was raised in Mumbai and I love this city, but it can be a little chaotic at times. Soho House offers a sometimes-necessary pocket of calm – albeit a pocket buzzing with creative energy, good food and, of course, the best view. I spend a lot of my time in the House writing in the peaceful Library, or up on the 10th floor.

‘Every experience at the House has been a special one. I loved attending the “O Gaanewali” event with my family, and an amazing dance workshop put on by the brilliantly talented Sri Lakshmi is a special memory, too.’

‘My favourite memory from Soho House Mumbai is undoubtedly our recent launch party for Motherland magazine’s special Mumbai edition, which we hosted there. We also held a panel to celebrate with myself, Jerry Pinto, Nonita Kalra, Tejas Mangeshkar and Kamal Sidhu in the Eva Room.

‘For me, there’s a sense of belonging and feeling of comfort at Soho House – in Mumbai or further afield. In the last few years, the Houses have become part of my travel plans and I have my favourite corners in most of them now.’

‘I’ve been a member of Soho House Mumbai since it opened back in November 2018. In that time, I’ve had too many amazing memories to choose from – perhaps the best ones are the nights I don’t fully remember.

‘I tend to spend my mornings clacking away at my laptop in a quiet corner of the House, but come evening I’m on the rooftop, watching the sunset with a glass of rosé and some masala fries, or catching up with friends over Picantes. For me, the House is a home away from home – a community space for the city’s creatives for both work and play.’

‘It’s hard to think of one specific memory from the House, but Mumbai has the loveliest vibe on the terrace – especially in the colder months. It’s beautiful, by the beach with a gentle breeze and the almost perfect spring-like weather that we’re so lucky to get here in the winter. You’ll find me chilling there all day, or sitting in the cabanas by the pool, eating and drinking and hanging with friends. I love it.’

‘I first joined the House because of its history of associating and collaborating with local artists, which I was very excited about. I’m also usually confined to my studio space inside an industrial estate where I work by myself, so being able to come to the House and get to know other like-minded people was important. Not only because of the interesting conversations I get to engage in, but also for the development of my artistic practice.

‘One of my first and fondest memories at the House is attending a talk by Indian artist duo Thukral and Tagra. I was able to discuss their work with them in such a candid and honest manner.’
