Time to give 2022 a joyful send-off by using up any extra annual leave you might have. Whether you have a day or a week, here are five itinerates to choose from

Wednesday 9 November 2022   By Anastasiia Fedorova

We’ve officially entered that strange time, where we’re not quite at the end of year, but the urge to wrap up and chill out is getting stronger by the day. It’s like 3am at a party: you’re still enjoying it, but exit strategies are very much on the agenda. Before we go full-on festive, there’s no better time to simply celebrate life for the sake of it and squeeze in a short refreshing getaway.

Thankfully, the end of the year tends to come with some forgotten annual leave days to use up before it’s too late – usually a day or two, or sometimes even a full week, which calls for a last-minute holiday. To help you get the most out of however many days you have, we’ve rounded up our favourite options for flexible city breaks. And if you happen to be in Europe, why not swap short-haul flights for trains? It’s both eco-friendly and lets you avoid the hectic nature of airports. We have also included links to Soho House guides for each destination, so all you need to do is pack your bag.

One day: a long weekend at Soho House Paris

Paris is perfect for a long weekend – enough for a couple of indulgent dinners, an art gallery or two, a long walk on Canal Saint-Martin, and a few lazy hours in a soft Soho Home king-size bed.

Located in Pigalle, a former red-light district between the 9th and 18th arrondissements, Soho House Paris is set in a 19th-century apartment building that was once home to the family of poet and artist Jean Cocteau. Attic rooms with specially commissioned murals and wooden ceilings are particularly charming, while larger Boudoir rooms channel French luxury with a modern twist.

Two days: a relaxed city getaway at Soho House Amsterdam

Both for the natives and those who made Amsterdam their home, it is a perfect city: Amsterdam is big enough to have an exciting urban culture, yet chilled enough to have a comfortable lifestyle for those lucky enough to call it home. Take a couple of days to get a taste of it for yourself.

Start easy with canal walks, before having a late night at the celebrated club De School, or visit one of the many museums and galleries, including the Stedelijk Museum for international-level contemporary art. Amsterdam allows for flexibility and self-care – it will be kind to you, whatever your appetite. Soho House Amsterdam is located in the heart of the city, with Art Deco bedrooms, a screening room with velvet armchairs and an outdoor pool. A state-of-the-art gym is the unexpected highlight: overlooking the canal, with high-gloss green ceilings to mirror the water, a mosaic-tile steam room and a sauna.

Three days: a sunny escape to Soho House Barcelona

You might know Barcelona as a summer destination, but it’s time to get reacquainted. In fact, the colder months might be much better for a visit. Calmer streets and cooler weather mean that you can truly appreciate the leafy boulevards, historic architecture and flavourful seafood specialities washed down with some Cava.

Soho House Barcelona is located in a 18th-century building in the city’s Gothic Quarter, overlooking Marina Port Vell. The inspiration for the interior was taken from classic Catalan design, with gothic architectural influences and vaulted ceilings. Bedrooms are decorated in warm colours and traditional Spanish patterned textiles – for a creatively stimulating and restorative break.

Four days: a treat for all the senses at Soho House Rome

Rome is a city of many pleasures: from art to gastronomy to ancient history to the mild climate. But during the colder season, it’s also the most cinematic destination ever: just imagine walking around in an elegantly tailored coat like some kind of Federico Fellini character, drinking espressos in local cafes and watching the sun setting over the ruins of the viaducts.

Plus, aperitivos are great no matter the weather – especially under the lemon trees on the roof terrace of Soho House Rome. Designed to give 360° views across the city, the 10th floor rooftop has a pool, bar, and restaurant. All bedrooms have Roman Graniglia flooring, stucco-rendered walls, and timber wave-shaped bed frames. And in case you decide to rewrite your future and glamorously relocate to Rome, the House also includes 20 long-stay apartments.
