To paraphrase Bryson Tiller, nightlife in Amsterdam is back and better than ever. The Dutch capital has developed a bit of a rep as a hedonist haven: a tourist magnet for boozy pub crawls, coffeeshop culture, and the debauchery of its Red Light District. But there’s more to a night out here than that. These days, Amsterdam’s nocturnal playground is heady with underground nights, 24-hour parties, and intimate gigs. The best bit? All public venues are finally operating as normal for the first time in two years. It’s about ‘Dam’ time (get it?).
Whether you want to let loose to the best club anthems, be entertained by the city’s drag artists, or dance the night away to Boris Werner, these are the places to go after the sun goes down.

The Illest at Bitterzoet on Friday 11 March
One of Amsterdam’s finest classic R&B parties is returning to Bitterzoet tonight, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the recent lifting of restrictions. Expect the best golden age hip-hop and classic R&B across three DJ sets. The night kicks off at 11.30pm and runs until late.

Jângäl at Chicago Social Club on Saturday 12 March
A party founded by model and DJ Jeremy Herkul, Jângäl is known among locals as one of the best R&B nights in the city. Celebrating their third anniversary on Saturday, MC Nevsdeboi will be seeing the night’s festivities through.

After a heavy bout of partying, sometimes the call of the club is best left unanswered. If a night on a velvet armchair wrapped in a cashmere blanket speaks to you, then settle in for an evening in our screening room. Drag King Bingo fundraiser for Ukraine at Sexyland on Sunday 13 March
Art project and conceptual club Sexyland is hosting a Drag King Bingo fundraiser night for Ukraine on Sunday. The night is organised by LezLinkUp – an Amsterdam-based organisation for the queer community. All funds raised will go towards helping the Ukrainian LGBTQ+ community in their search for safe refuge from the ongoing war.

R&B special at Bitterzoet on Sunday 13 March
Bitterzoet is hosting DJs Hayrettin and Lee Millah to celebrate the latter’s birthday. Expect sets packed with the best R&B bangers.

The Monday Club at Soho House Amsterdam on Monday 14 March
Why not kick-start the new week with a party at the House? To celebrate Women’s History Month, DJs Eileen and Twiena are bringing a diverse sound to Soho House Amsterdam on Monday night, starting with some classic house and finishing with breakbeats.

Âme live at De Marktkantine on Friday 18 March
Another titan in Amsterdam’s nightlife scene, De Marktkantine is a multi-room techno club, earning the name from its origin as a canteen for market stallholders. Next weekend, Frank Wiedemann, one half of German house/techno duo Âme, will be taking clubgoers on a journey through Âme’s boundary-pushing tracks and mixes. Expect support sets from Benny Rodrigues, Tsepo, and Rose Ringed.

Boris Werner at Shelter on Friday 25 March
This list would be incomplete without mentioning Shelter, a venue that easily competes with London’s Fabric or Berlin’s Berghain. With an eye-watering 24-hour licence, an intense but unforgettable night (or day) awaits those intrepid revellers with the requisite stamina. Head down to catch the charismatic Boris Werner – a leading figure of the house music scene – with a set that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

The Factory at Club NYX on Saturday 26 March
With a name that takes inspiration from the Greek goddess of the night, the daughter of Chaos, Club NYX delivers exactly that. The LGBTQI+ friendly superclub consists of three floors, each offering different musical stylings to cater for its large range of clientele. Plus, there’s a DJ in the open-plan bathroom. Events at the club sell out fast, so be quick with this one.

Amsterdam nightlife comes in all kinds of surprising forms. Cue Marijke De Roover, a visual and performance artist who will be performing her show ‘Live, Laugh, Limerence’ at the House on Tuesday 29 March.
