For New Jersey native Noah Holton-Raphael, moving across the country presented an opportunity to bring a piece of the East Coast to the West. Along with two of his childhood friends, Holton-Raphael opened Ggiata, a traditional East Coast-style Italian deli, something they felt the neighbourhood was lacking in both food and atmosphere.

Last year, after only a few months in business, the Ggiata boys partnered up with Soho House West Hollywood for a pop-up to introduce their deli to the community. Now, one year later, they are mainstays in LA – known for their sandwiches, merchandise, and remembering your name by your second visit to the shop.

The Soho House West Hollywood member stayed at Soho Warehouse for a quick staycation to visit his favourite DTLA spots nearby, while also being only a few minutes away from work the next morning. Read on for Holton-Raphael’s recommendations for Downtown Los Angeles.

Coffee and flowers at Bloom & Plume
Start your morning with a latte and bespoke bouquet from Bloom & Plume. Owned by fellow Soho House member and one of LA’s top floral designers, Maurice Harris, the space is hard to miss with its bright purple exterior and windows bursting with plants.

Lunch at Ggiata
Only a short drive from Soho Warehouse, Holton-Raphael’s Italian deli is a local hotspot. Order The Spicy P sandwich and arancini, and check out whatever dessert the boys are cooking up that day.

Hauser & Wirth gallery
The international fine art gallery, also located in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, is known for its curated exhibitions. Located in a former flour mill, don’t forget to take notice of the architecture alongside the gallery’s dynamic collection on display.

Explore The Broad
Holton-Raphael’s favourite museum is only 10 minutes from Soho Warehouse. It houses a contemporary collection dating from the 1950s to the present. Make sure you stop by Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms.

Dinner at Bavel
Middle Eastern restaurant, Bavel, boasts the perfect date-night menu. Share a plethora of flatbreads and spreads underneath hanging vines in a former warehouse building.
