Embrace Nashville’s musical spirit at the next Soho Retreat | Soho House

With a traditional Boot Scoot, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Ryman Auditorium and a gospel yoga session, your next escape is centred on music, in partnership with Antler

Wednesday 10 April 2024 By Soho House

Tennessee is the home of country music, so it makes sense for our first-ever music-focused retreat to take place at Soho House Nashville. From Friday 24 to Monday 27 May, you’ll be taken on a musical journey across modern and traditional country, jazz and soul, including an exclusive tour of the National Museum of African American Music and a Boot Scoot with country songs and line dancing.

Over the course of three nights, guests will stay at Soho House Nashville. Built in a former sock factory, the club’s interiors have been inspired by musical influences in the city. A highlight is the bold striped floor on the pool terrace, which resembles strings against a fretboard.

Once you have settled in, the retreat will start with a garden barbecue for dinner featuring Prince’s Hot Chicken – a signature staple from the city created in Nashville more than 100 years ago – followed by a Boot Scoot in the Sock Room. DJ John Stamps will hit the decks, while karaoke DJ, Gowa, leads the group in an evening of line dancing and karaoke based around 1990s country music.

Your first full day will kick off with a trip to Lower Broadway to enjoy a Soul’d Out brunch at Acme Feed & Seed for a taste of southern classics, such as buffalo wings, shrimps and grits, and smoked beef brisket sandwiches. Once you’ve indulged in your fair share of wings, you’ll get a private behind-the-scenes tour of the world-renowned Ryman Auditorium by Soho House member and Apple Music radio host, Nada Taha. Opened in 1892, the theatre is known as the ‘Soul of Nashville’ and has hosted performances by artists including Louis Armstrong, Harry Houdini, and Harry Styles.

A bar hop down Broadway will follow, stopping at some of the most popular live performance venues in the city showcasing a range of country music. The crawl will round up at private members’ space Trisha’s Kitchen inside the bar Friends in Low Places. Then, you’ll return to the House for a southern dining experience by a Nashville-based chef and a live band.

Sunday will start with a holistic gospel yoga experience in the garden; Soho House member and yoga instructor, Ashley Brooke James, will guide the practice accompanied by a local choral arrangement. Rejuvenated and ready for the day, you can enjoy a Sunday Feast featuring Nashville classics such as fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits, while the Alex Murphy Trio sets the scene with some live jazz. Hailing from Chicago, Murphy played in some of the biggest jazz bars in the city before moving to Nashville to collaborate with Tennessee-based jazz, R&B and hip-hop artists.

In the afternoon, Bryce Page, the cofounder of urban music platform and promoter Lovenoise, will take you on an exclusive tour of the National Museum of African American Music, guiding you through the rich history and culture.

When you return to the House, figurative artist and abolitionist meditation practitioner, Shabazz Larkin will host a soulful sonic meditation session in the screening room; his practice combines traditional techniques and deconstructed soul, jazz, R&B and gospel soundscapes.

The retreat will close with a dinner by Lovenoise and cofounder Bryce Page, who will discuss the history of Black music in Nashville. The rest of the night is yours to spend as you wish, with breakfast in the morning to enjoy before heading home.
