Celebrate the launch of the izakaya-style Japanese restaurant at our west London outpost with Jasmine Martinis, dishes from the robata grill and a performance by Black Cat Cabaret

Since its opening at Soho Farmhouse in 2015, Pen Yen has become a much-loved fixture in the Soho House world. The flavours of tender black cod served with a sharp saikyo miso dip, crispy fried tempura and meticulously prepared sashimi would linger in the memories of members for days, until the next Farmhouse visit. Thankfully, in 2021 Pen Yen opened at Shoreditch House, and now it’s coming to the eighth floor of west London’s White City House.

Pen Yen’s ultimate speciality is the robata grill (cooking over hot charcoal on a wide, flat open fireplace) with Japanese binchotan charcoal, which holds heat longer for a delicate charred flavour. From sticky pork ribs and wood-oven chicken with spicy den miso to grilled wild seabass, you’ll have a hard time choosing between the mains. The good news is, dining at Pen Yen is experiential and involves trying as many things as possible. Inspired by izakaya, a type of Japanese dining style serving a variety of small dishes and snacks, it encourages you to mix, match and share.

Meanwhile, the interiors at Pen Yen White City combine Soho Home signatures (like our plush velvet sofas and soft lighting) with Asian influences, making it a great place for an indulgent dinner or a midday treat away from the city’s bustle. This Thursday, we celebrate the opening with a selection of the best offerings from the menu and a performance by Black Cat Cabaret – with table bookings open to members from Friday.

Let’s raise a glass of saké to that.

Pen Yen White City is open Monday to Friday for dinner, with brunch services on both Saturday and Sunday accompanied by live music and entertainment (from Wednesday to Sunday). Expect dim sum and jazz on Wednesday, cabaret on Fridays, and soul bands on Saturday. Soho House members can book a table via the SH.APP.
