Che Fico by name, Che Fico by nature. Translating to ‘how cool!’ from Italian slang, the San Francisco restaurant is bringing a taste of Italy to Soho House Austin with a limited-run residency centred on live-fire cooking, handmade pasta, and traditional sourdough pizza.

Rooted in Roman-Jewish culinary traditions and reimagined through a Californian lens, the original Che Fico eatery is a taverna-style restaurant designed for gathering – a place to enjoy warm hospitality, food and drink. Now, until 31 December, Soho House members can experience its signature spirit, alongside an exclusive menu, right from the Texan capital.

Created especially for the residency, the menu blends favourites from the restaurant’s San Francisco flagship and dishes unique to Soho House Austin made with local ingredients. Behind it is executive chef and co-owner David Nayfeld, who has trained in world-renowned kitchens – including Eleven Madison Park, Nobu, and Joël Robuchon – and was also named a semi-finalist for the 2023 James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Chef. It’s no wonder, then, that under Nayfeld’s culinary direction, Che Fico was named one of the best new restaurants in America by both Esquire and Bon Appetit, and is a mainstay in its NoPa neighbourhood.

In true Italian fashion, the residency’s menu offers a full spread, from antipasti and pasta-based primi to secondi, and more. Highlights include best-loved dishes from the San Francisco eatery, including the Carne Cruda with summer truffle and Parmigiano Reggiano aged for 24 months, Polpo e Pancetta di Maiale, as well as a selection of sourdough pizzas and handmade pastas, such as Manicotti with bolognese and bechamel, and Short Rib Agnolotti with stracchino fonduta.

Cocktails bring a playful twist, with options including the Banane Split Negroni, the whisky-based Gattara Pazza, and the Viaggiatore: a blend of lime aperitif and pineapple rum. To finish, classic Italian desserts take centre stage. Members can enjoy Tiramisu layered with mascarpone with shaved chocolate, Crostata with strawberry jam, served with vanilla bean gelato, and more.

Che Fico’s takeover is available at Soho House Austin until 31 December, from 5pm to 10pm daily. Book your table via the app or by contacting reception.
