From handbag essentials to hacks on beating traffic: all you need to make it through the weeks ahead in style, according to the experts

Thursday 15 September       by Sagal Mohammed

It’s that time of the year again. This month, editors, celebrities and fashion enthusiasts will delve deep into SS23 collections from household designers across a series of first-look shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris. And with it comes one heck of a hectic itinerary.

Outfit planning, skin prep (courtesy of Soho Skin, of course) and an organised schedule is essential to surviving the weeks ahead – almost as important as making sure you’re well rested, so you can indulge in the countless grand parties and late dinners that are part of the international Fashion Week package. But what else do you need?

Here, some of Soho House’s favourite Fashion Editors lead us through the secrets of their London Fashion Week Survival Kits – from the emergency snack they carry in their handbags, to where to sneak off for a cheeky Picante.

1 | The last-minute vintage buy

‘Sign of the Times in Chelsea has the most incredible vintage finds, from Hermès to Chanel. Sure, these are investments but Fashion Month is when you need to pull out the big names.’
Billie Bhatia, fashion and beauty features director, Stylist

‘I keep refreshing MatchesFashion.com, which is now stocking Reluxe – a pre-loved edit curated by stylist Clare Richardson. There’s lots of old Celine I’m desperate to get my hands on.’
Hattie Brett, editor-in-chief, Grazia

‘Brick Lane’s Serotonin Vintage (just five minutes from Shoreditch House). I just scored a vintage Desigual dress in perfect condition. It’s got a low V-neck, balloon skirt and Desigual’s signature patchwork style – it’s just *chef’s kiss*. I’ll definitely be pairing it with knee high boots during fashion week.’
Ebony Renee Baker, fashion editor, Refinery29

‘The Row's ‘Fisherman’ sandals from Vestiaire Collective.’
Lauren Indvik, fashion editor, Financial Times

2 | The emergency snack

‘There is a bag of easy peelers in the car whatever city I am in, and usually some crushed Pret Chocolate Corn Cakes.’
Billie

‘Anything Cadbury’s. The only chocolate that counts.’
Hattie

‘This is weird, but protein yogurt from Aldi. It’s an easy way to keep the gains in mind and they sometimes come with a little wooden spoon, too.’
Ebony

‘Pret’s vegan chocolate and almond-butter cookie.’

3 | The best lunch spot

‘45 Jermyn Street.’
Billie

‘180 House, obviously. Poolside.’
Hattie

‘Selfridges Food Hall, which for the past few seasons has been conveniently next door to the BFC NewGen venue.’
Lauren

‘Busaba! There are so many locations, they always have a spot, and you’ll need something hefty like a Pad Thai or Massaman Curry to get you through the long day.’

4 | The sneaky cocktail bar

‘180 House – it's always convenient.’
Billie

‘Upstairs at Langan’s for cosy cocktails that turn into outlandish nights.’
Hattie

‘Dukes in Mayfair.’
Lauren

‘Swift. I’m a fan of their Shoreditch location and the Soho one will be a perfect respite in between shows.’

5 | The between-shows beauty treatment

‘SKINWORK’s City Cleanse facial at their spa on Peter Street in Soho. Brightening, hydrating, and with enough extraction that you genuinely feel cleansed.’
Billie

‘A fresh trim at George Northwood by the legend himself. He’s the most skilled hairdresser in town – and the nicest, too. Especially when his mum has brought homemade shortbread to the salon.’
Hattie

‘Blow-dry with Ernesto at Shine on the Green, on Stoke Newington's Church Street, which is near my flat.’
Lauren

‘I’ll definitely be stopping into Townhouse for a pedicure. It’s a great way to get a massage and treat myself. They’re also opening their Liverpool Street location this month – just in time for the shows.’

6 | The traffic-avoiding hack

‘Unless you’re on a moped (I did that one season), the traffic is unavoidable so just roll with it and use it as nap time.’
Billie

‘Walk. And carry a L’Hood – an ingenious snap bracelet that turns into a chic rain hood – in case of showers.’
Hattie

‘Running – I have a particularly vivid memory of sprinting through deep grass in Hyde Park with two American editors to make the cut-off at Burberry. And always the tube.’
Lauren

7 | The handbag essential

‘Omorovicza Queen of Hungary mist – it gives a glow on the move.’
Billie

‘A battery-pack phone charger. And chucking out the LOL Dolls/Hatchimals my kids keep slipping in there.’
Hattie

‘Notebook and pen.’
Lauren

‘Mints and a portable charger.’

8 | The ultimate show shoes

‘Prada point-toe sling backs. You can run in them but still look smart for that last-minute party you said you wouldn't go to but inevitably will end up at.’
Billie

‘McQueen trainers.’
Hattie

‘A pair of “seasoned” black leather sandals from The Row. And by the end of the week... TeVas.’
Lauren

‘I’ll be rotating my trainers, combat boots and flatform clogs. Obviously, I couldn’t choose just one.’
