An intimate evening of poetry and cocktails at Holloway House

Last Friday, August 26, an eclectic group of creatives came together in the Holloway House Library Room to experience the power of live poetry. The event was part of the Napkin Poetry Review’s international series, which has led poetry readings in cities such as Paris, London, and Berlin.

In a bid to highlight local culture, the line-up featured LA-based poets Jessica Piazza and L.A. Johnson, as well as London-based poet Taylor Beidler. Guests included friends of the House and members of the Soho House Women Writers group.

Napkin co-founders Anna Seidel and Caroline King hosted the event. Born from the idea that the back of a cocktail napkin has served as the vessel that’s brought multiple creative ideas to life for skilled writers across history, The Napkin seeks to bring poetry to light in unexpected places – from business to fashion to science.

The Napkin Poetry Review was invited to take part in Louis Vuitton’s 200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries series alongside cultural leaders, such as Gloria Steinem, BTS and Marc Jacobs – each of whom were asked to transform one of the brand’s iconic cases into vessels of creativity. The finished pieces now live in the Louis Vuitton 200 Exhibition on Rodeo Drive.
