From long-standing legends Fatboy Slim and Bastille to exciting new talents Eugy, Shaé Universe, Waves Rush In and more – here are all the acts not to miss

Thursday 9 June 2022    By Anastasiia Fedorova

Soho House Festival is back after a two-year break – this time with two separate dates in west London’s Gunnersbury Park. You know the drill: all the food, drink and entertainment included in the ticket price. More good news? We’ve added an extra date on Saturday – which means you’ll have a whole lazy Sunday to sleep it off and marvel at the memories.

But there is one more reason why the Saturday edition of Soho House Festival is special for us this year. For 2022, we’re partnering with the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust in memory of Jamal, a beloved and much missed member of the Soho House family. After joining our Under 27 membership committee more than a decade ago, he was pivotal in shaping our community.

Saturday 9 July is an extra special tribute to him – featuring acts programmed in partnership with SBTV, alongside some of Jamal’s favourite food and drinks. The Self Belief Trust focuses on combatting homelessness, supporting people with mental health issues and providing young people with essential life skills. Jamal was passionate about empowering youth and providing the next generation with both the life skills and opportunities to maximise their potential – which is something we can totally get behind.

Below is a breakdown of the all-star Saturday line-up. Get excited.

Fatboy Slim

Norman Cook, better known as dance music legend Fatboy Slim, is a Grammy and Brit awards-winning artist who has been a pivotal part of British pop culture for the past three decades. We can’t wait to witness the sampling mastery and lose it to the earthshattering sounds of ‘Right Here, Right Now’ and ‘Weapon of Choice’. Moreover, these days Fatboy Slim sets are complex audio-visual productions in their own right, with visuals synchronised to the artful mash-ups.

Bastille
Over the course of nearly a decade together, Bastille’s unique sound – that cinematic, melancholic pop that masks the bleak realities reflected in their lyrics – has connected with audiences across the globe. Originally the solo project of London-based singer-songwriter Dan Smith, Bastille started their ascent with the hit single ‘Pompeii’, which cemented the success of their debut Bad Blood in 2013. No soundtrack could be more suited for drifting in and out of a summer’s evening.

Sports Team
Sports Team have been described as one of the most raucous, electrifying and chaotic acts in the UK. Their Mercury Prize-nominated debut album Deep Down Happy, released in the summer of 2020, delivered on all bold claims and confirmed their place at the head of a new wave of young guitar acts. Documenting modern Britain in all its messy complexity, as well as their own lives as young tyros fine-tuning their plan to ravish the charts, their songs are both affectionate and disdainful – much like the band’s oft-cited folk hero, John Betjeman, whose poems and documentaries poked around suburban habitats with appalled fascination.

WSTRN
WSTRN are the three-piece crew who thrust west London back into the musical spotlight with their 2015 ultra-smooth, chart-bothering debut single ‘In2’. Built around super-sweet melodies and crisp put-your-white-trainers-on production, the track drew from west London’s multicultural melting pots to blend UK rap vibrance, candied R&B lilts and afro swing heat. WSTRN is the glue between increasingly diverse sounds and burgeoning scenes, with collabs ranging from UK drill hotshot Unknown T and road-rapper Skrapz to Nigerian superstars Tiwa Savage and Mr Eazi.
