Inside our Tokyo Marathon weekend events

Members and the international running community came together for pre- and post-race fun as the first marathon ‘major’ of 2026 got underway
Tuesday 3 March 2026 By Soho House
As we move closer to opening the doors to Soho House Tokyo – our first Japanese outpost and 50th House – we’ve been running a series of events as a way for our new members to get to know each other before we officially welcome members on Monday 6 April.
The latest of these took place over Tokyo Marathon weekend. A huge event both locally and globally – it’s the first of the seven annual international marathon ‘majors’ in which the world’s elite runners compete – this year’s race saw roughly 39,000 runners take part, many of them from the international running community. With health and wellbeing important pillars for our members around the world, it was an ideal opportunity for our wider community to connect with our local members and team over the weekend.

Saturday 28 February: the pre-race run
The day before the big race, around 20 participants came together for a 5k Shakeout Run. Members gathered on the rooftop at Soho House Tokyo on Saturday morning for a poolside warm-up and stretch session before hitting the streets. It was a chance for the group to share tips and get to know each other over turmeric and ginger shots, natural energy drinks, and nutrient-rich energy balls and date snacks – provided in partnership with a local juice stand.
Then, wearing branded Soho Marathon Week T-shirts designed especially for the event, the runners headed out for a friendly, easy run that took them through the vibrant Omotesando, Shibuya, and Nakameguro neighbourhoods.
Fellow members weren’t the only people our runners connected with. The group’s coordinated kit and upbeat energy drew attention, with several pedestrians and local runners – including a few dog walkers – joining in at several stages along the route.
The run ended at HVEN – a multiuse creative space in Nakameguro – where they were met by the Soho House team. Designed as an opportunity for members to continue conversations over a Japanese-style lunch, it was great to see connections being made.

Sunday 1 March: the post-race party
On the race day itself, it felt like the whole city had come out to cheer on the 39,000 people – a combination of amateur and elite professional runners – who were taking part in the first of the seven marathon ‘majors’ that take place annually across the world. It was an electric experience, and we continued that mood at our Post-Marathon Groove party that evening.
Around 200 guests joined us back at HVEN to toast the weekend, many of them from the international running community who were in the city specifically for the race. Tokyo Marathon medals were proudly worn, adding to the celebratory atmosphere, with a bar and lounge area for conversation and networking, and a dance floor for those who still had energy to burn.
In the spirit of the event, alcohol-free options such as ginger shots and natural energy drinks were popular with the crowd, alongside Picantes and other signature House drinks. The party continued long into the night with DJ sets keeping the energy high.
