How to celebrate Hanukkah at our West Coast Houses

There’s plenty to celebrate throughout the month of December as we lean into the spirit of the holidays – especially thanks to our festive events around the Houses. This weekend, we’re continuing celebrations with not one but two exciting nights at our LA outposts marking the beginning of Hanukkah, followed by a celebration at Little Beach House Malibu. 

Also known as the Festival of Lights or Feast of the Maccabees, Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that falls on the 25th day of Kislev in the Hebrew calendar (typically in the month of December) and is celebrated across eight nights. Historically, it’s a holy period reaffirming the ideals of Judaism and the Second Temple of Jerusalem by lighting a candle every day throughout Hanukkah and singing traditional Hebrew songs with loved ones. This year, it takes place from Sunday 18 December until Monday 26 December.

‘Hanukkah is about togetherness,’ says Samantha Stone, Soho House’s Chief Membership Officer who’s based in West Hollywood. ‘It’s about tradition. It’s about the latkes, the games, the fun and laughter that echoes through our home. Lighting the menorah with my husband and three kids for eight nights, knowing that the same songs we sing have been sung by our ancestors for so many years before us is truly special. Hanukkah is the sparkle of all things joyful. May this year’s be a time of hope, happiness, love and good health for all.’

Sunday 18 December marks the first night of Hanukkah, and we’re celebrating with Haim. Join us in the Atrium at Holloway House for a night of dancing, games and festive fun, all hosted by the Haim sisters – you won’t want to miss this one.

Join our Under 27 Membership Manager, Kimiko Singer, for a dinner party in celebration of Hanukkah at our DTLA House on Monday night. The menu will be centred around an ‘East meets West’ concept, highlighting Singer’s Jewish and Japanese background.
