House Nights: Pussy Riot takes over SXSW

Only the biggest names in Web3 gathered at Soho House Austin for UnicornDAO’s inaugural Web3 dinner hosted by Pussy Riot founder, Nadya Tolokonnikova, and UnicornDAO cofounders, Jenni Thompson and Vanessa Magos. Tolokonnikova’s latest venture UnicornDAO fights for equality with crypto as the vehicle.
‘The goal is to bring more tools, capital and power to women-identifying and LGBTQ+ people. We still have the same ethos as Pussy Riot did over 10 years ago; bringing equality, justice and joy to communities that have been historically underrepresented,’ she says.
The Web3 thought leaders and creatives gathered at SXSW to discuss how blockchain technology can empower activism, strengthen communities, and inspire collaborations. After raising more than $7m for Ukraine relief via an NFT with UkraineDAO, Tolokonnikova’s next initiative focuses on ‘redistributing wealth and allowing women and LGBTQ+ people to empower themselves’.
Among the dinner guests were DJs Diplo and 3LAU, Vogue and Bumble’s Selby Drummond, and musician, Vérité. They were joined by Beeple, the artist behind the record-breaking NFT that sold for $69m at Christie’s last year; Reese Lasher of Playboy; Alex Zhang, cofounder of Friends with Benefits; Charli Cohen, CEO of RSTLSS, and Erick Calderon, CEO of Art Blocks.
