House Nights: Japan’s queen of hip-hop, Awich, takes Tokyo

We hosted a line-up of genre-hopping artists from the country’s diverse music scene ahead of Fuji Rock Festival
Monday 1 August 2022 By Soho House
The newly opened Gold Bar at EDITION was the location for our recent Cities Without Houses event in Tokyo’s EDITION hotel. The night featured a live, high-energy set from headliner Awich, the Okinawa-born artist who’s frequently referred to as the queen of Japanese hip-hop. Awich played alongside local legends, including BudaMunk – who got the crowd dancing with a trip-hop and 1990s hip-hop set – and Kenji Takimi, whose Italo-disco set closed out the evening perfectly.
Kunichi Nomura, Masafumi Watanabe, Natsuko Shoji, Reiko McNish Sato, Hiroaki Fukuda, and Tomo Koizumi were all in attendance, with guests enjoying cocktails curated especially for the event by Soho House and Gold Bar.
