It’s been a busy week around the Houses: festive gatherings and parties are in full swing, alongside numerous events covering food, music, film, art and fashion. This week, it’s all experimental sounds and soulful culinary adventures, plus a star-studded evening to celebrate the BAFTA Breakthrough cohort.

Bomba Estéreo at Soho House Barcelona, supported by Bacardí


Ahead of their show at Palau Sant Jordi, Bomba Estéreo’s lead singer Li Saumet hopped on stage for an intimate live show, performing a mix of the Columbian band’s hits and covers. High-energy psychedelic cumbia vibes were served with special Bacardí cocktails.

One Night Only at White City House, supported by St-Germain 


In the latest instalment of our One Night Only series of culinary discoveries, Matt Ryle hosted a special dinner in White City’s Pen Yen, in partnership with St-Germain. Originally from Reading in the UK, Ryle is an award-winning chef and currently head chef at Maison Francois, one of London’s most popular brasseries. He gained experience at the then-Michelin-starred L’Ortolan and The Dorchester, and was a finalist on MasterChef: The Professionals. The lucky members got a taste of Ryle’s extraordinary career through a special menu served alongside St-Germain cocktails.

A celebration of the BAFTA Breakthrough cohort at 180 House 


On 7 December, BAFTA and Netflix hosted an event for this year’s BAFTA Breakthrough cohort. A celebration of the industry’s future changemakers, it was held at 180 House in London with many of this year’s breakthrough stars in attendance, including Ambika Mod, who starred in This Is Going To Hurt, Heartstopper cinematographer Diana Olifirova, Big Boys writer Jack Rooke, and Marley Morrison and Nell Barlow of Sweetheart. Director and producer Baz Luhrmann, actors George MacKay, Nathaniel Martello-White and Percelle Ascott were among the guests, while BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip also came to support the new generation of talent working in TV.

‘Written by… Plested’ by Spotify at Shoreditch House


Shoreditch House hosted the first in the new series of live events, titled ‘Written By...’ from  Spotify’s Noteable, a global community for songwriters and producers. Inspired by Spotify’s ‘Written by…’ playlists, the series will highlight the music industry’s finest songwriters, and give the audience a chance to learn more about their craft and lives. For the first event, we sat down with Plested, who is responsible for songs including ‘Touch’ by Little Mix, ‘Before You Go’ and ‘Forget Me’ by Lewis Capaldi, and many more. Over the course of the evening, he took us through his favourite cuts to date and shared unheard demo stories from the studio. Check out ‘Written… By Plested’ on Spotify to hear more.

Soho Big Gig: Yussef Dayes live at Soho House Mumbai 


Yussef Dayes is one of the UK’s most exciting and innovative young drummers and producers. Though largely considered a jazz drummer, his sound melds everything from 1970s funk and Senegalese percussion to recent UK grime; the unifying factor is a fluid, vital energy. Last Friday, he performed live at Soho House Mumbai with a talented group of musicians.

‘A Seat at the Table’ dinner at Mandolin DTLA


Last week’s ‘A Seat at the Table’ dinner at Mandolin celebrated a group of creatives making notable ‘firsts’ in their field. Guests included the first Miss Great Britain of Indian descent, Preeti Desai, and founder of Bodkin Wine, Chris Christensen, alongside Indigenous honourees Sarah Eagle Heart and Justin Johnson Cortez. The dinner was hosted in DTLA on Thursday, followed by a screening of Cortez’s show Walker: Independence in West Hollywood on Friday.
