With new furnishings and an English-inspired garden, get a first look at our updated original LA club

Fifteen years ago we opened our first House in Los Angeles. Ever since then, Soho House West Hollywood – located on the iconic Sunset Boulevard – has become a cornerstone for keeping LA’s sprawling creative community well connected. So this year, we’re honouring that legacy with a full House redesign that goes far beyond a lick of paint.

‘The intent was to restore the House back to its original character by infusing a sense of traditional English elegance with a nod to Hollywood glamour,’ says Amanda Sharp, Soho House Senior Designer, who led the project. ‘Think lots of high-gloss burl wood, paired with linens, florals, aged leathers, and striped upholstery.’

From the moment they walk into the club’s reception, members will be greeted with a warm and welcoming space, thanks to a grounding colour palette, wood panelling and an inset silk wallcovering. A comfortable seating area invites guests to stay and relax for longer.

After taking the newly refreshed lifts up to the next floor, guests are led towards the club by the grand staircase, with restored marble and ambient under-tread lighting, while a vintage Murano chandelier illuminates a brand-new mural. More than a thoroughfare, the revived penthouse lobby has also been repurposed

In the Sitting Room, expect to find more spaces to lounge and dine, including 12 new stools lining the bar, which has been brought to life with a new wood finish and inset leather panels. Soft seating areas are made up of a combination of signature Soho Home furniture and unique vintage pieces. Together, they create an eclectic, lived-in feel, while sheer Roman blinds along the perimeter windows soften the space without interrupting the expansive views over the city.

Down the corridor and into the rooftop garden, overlooking the Hollywood Hills, the tropical planting scheme has given way to a fuller, more overgrown landscaping reminiscent of an abundant English garden. Fragrant herbs and colourful flower beds surround the revitalised trestle feast table. On the lower deck, the addition of velvet upholstery allows for a more elevated restaurant experience, complemented with silk shade iron chandeliers and blown-glass pendants by local artist Michael Panetta, dotted among the olive trees.

‘We’ve worked almost exclusively with local furniture makers, millwork fabricators and artists,’ explains Sharp. ‘All soft furnishings are either vintage or custom made by upholstery suppliers from the area, while the lighting over the bars has been crafted by local supplier Forma Luz and LA ceramicist Becky Aubry.’

No corner has been overlooked in the House refresh. The new bathroom schemes have been updated with statement marble vanities contrasted by traditional panelled walls and antique brass fittings, while the photo booth has been reinstated with traditional print photos and an interactive pin board wall.

In the coming weeks, the screening room will also be updated with a touch of Hollywood glamour, with deeper burgundy tones and silk shade table lamps designed to create an intimate mood. In place of the front-row lounger beds, you’ll find a modular deep low-level sofa, along with new glossy burl cocktail bars to complete the classic silver screen experience.
