Since opening in 2022, Soho House Nashville has quickly become a home for Nashville’s exploding creative scene. Once a former sock factory and our largest outpost in the States, the House itself is almost as unique as its members. Read on to meet artist and writer Shabazz Larkin, photographer Minnie Morklithavong, wardrobe stylist Josh Owen, videographer Josh Nachoz, and fashion designer Marjan Vafaie. Hear their stories of long days spent lounging by the pool and epic Halloween costumes – not to mention memories of Erykah Badu performing at the House.

How long have you been a member?
‘I’m a Founder member at Soho House Nashville, so since 2022.’

Why is Soho House special to you? And what makes your US House unique?
‘After Covid started dying down, I didn’t know how to come back into society after being in lockdown. Soho House was a safe place for me to be with friends in a controlled environment. I knew what to expect, I was surrounded by my community, and I felt at home. And then I began hosting live experimental meditations to Black music and soul soundscapes in the theatre in Nashville. I wasn’t sure anyone would come, but all my people showed up to support. It watered this vision of mine to make meditation an art experience. I felt the love and that my experiments can have a real impact on people’s lives. I think supporting the experimental fringes of culture is where culture thrives.

‘So, while Soho House is made to bring together creative community, for me it’s also bringing together my spiritual community as well – embracing the odd and curious. That’s what’s real. That’s why Soho House Nashville is special to me.’

How long have you been a member?
‘Since the House opened in February 2022.’

Why is Soho House special to you? And what makes your US House unique?
‘It’s special to me as the spaces allow creatives to connect with other creatives from all over the world. Soho House Nashville specifically is unique to me because it’s the largest in the States. The former sock factory was transformed into a beautiful space, while preserving the history of the building.’

How do you spend your time at Soho House? Any standout moments?
‘I make use of all of the spaces regularly. The cinema is the cosiest place to watch a movie. The huge pool is ideal for laying on a cabana and catching up with friends, and the garden is the perfect oasis to read or host an event. Plus, the gym has all the amenities and equipment you need. Overall, the House is great for meetings, doing some work or getting lunch or dinner with your friends. A recent standout moment for me was seeing Erykah Badu’s set.’

How long have you been a member?
‘I’ve been a Founder member since 2022.’

Why is Soho House special to you? And what makes your US House unique?
‘It’s special to me because it’s truly a creative hub in our city. I see all my friends from other parts of the industry all in one place. Since Soho House Nashville has opened, I’ve met and become friends with even more creatives here. The House is unique because it embodies the openness and welcoming attitude that Nashville offers. It’s a true representation of the Music City.’

How do you spend your time at Soho House? Any standout moments?
‘My friends jokingly either call me the Soho House cat or the mayor, which I love. I spend quite a bit of time there working out, meeting and relaxing. My favourite moment at the Nashville House was styling the entire staff for our Halloween party in 2022. It brought my love for Halloween and the House team together. The looks on their faces and the pride they had after they were transformed into some of the most iconic musical artists will be a memory I won’t forget.’

‘I have been a member since 2022.’

Why is Soho House special to you? And what makes your US House unique?
‘Soho House has been special to me because it has allowed me to grow as a creative and has also been a gateway for working for other brands while giving me a place to relax.’

How do you spend your time at Soho House? Any standout moments?
‘I spend a lot of time in the spa when I’m at Soho House Nashville. And once I’m relaxed, I love catching a film in the screening room.’

How long have you been a member?
‘Since March 2022 as a Founder member.’

Why is Soho House special to you? And what makes your US House unique?
‘It’s special as there are always lots of different events you can join, such as Japanese brush painting, art talks, Persian New Year, and fashion shows. Plus, the cinema shows the types of movies I like to see, which I would normally watch at The Belcourt. Also, I know I’ll always be able to get a table or seat at the bar, either solo or with friends, which is becoming harder in booming Nashville. I also love meeting like-minded people in a welcoming, safe environment.’

How do you spend your time at Soho House? Any standout moments?

‘It’s basically my one-stop shop, especially in ever-changing, touristy Nashville. I enjoy going to the events, dining solo or with friends, watching movies, socialising, and networking. I’ve met some really special people at Soho House who are now friends of mine.

‘My standout moments would be seeing legendary artists perform in the Sock Room or club, up close and personal (George Clinton, Elle King and Erykah Badu), and the Barbie party.’
