Rooftop restaurants – they’re always so alluring, right? Why imbibe at any ordinary eatery when you can tuck into delicious food and panoramic views way above the city streets. The best ones hum with atmosphere all day long, and come with jaw-dropping vistas, impeccable service, well thought-out menus, and a sort of laissez-faire mood that encourages many languorous hours spent in the heat. Sipping, nibbling, napping – that’s the life.

Our newly opened Cecconi’s Terrazza restaurant on the 10th floor of Soho House Rome is such a place. The beloved Italian restaurant finally makes her way home and sits like a starlet in repose, soaking up the sun in the lemon tree orchard on the rooftop where the air is fresh with the smell of Sicilian citrus. The wraparound vista from here is a showstopper, and offers a view of the eternal city that stretches far into the distant Apennine Mountains. Take in the myriad of terracotta roofs, church spires that stretch upwards, ancient ruins, and grand classical mansions that burn pink when the sun sets fire to the city. All of this is best enjoyed with some of San Lorenzo’s finest Italian food and wine.

There’s cicchetti to accompany the crispest Vermentino: zucchini fritti drizzled in fresh lemon juice and served with aioli, baked gnocchi Romana sprinkled with gorgonzola, and Italian meatballs in a traditional tomato and basil sauce. You’ll also find Italian favourites such as creamy burrata with cherry tomatoes and basil, and Venetian classics including beef and ricciola carpaccio with stracciatella and fresh mint. Best served with a bottle of our finest rosé, Lady A – on ice, of course.

Elsewhere, you’ll find handmade pasta and seafood: tagliatelle bolognese, prawn ravioli with fresh tomato, and lobster spaghetti that’s served with a fiery puttanesca sauce. Plus, there’s all of the classic wood-fired pizzas: spicy salami with mushrooms and fontina, marinara with anchovies, garlic and cherry tomatoes, and salty prosciutto San Daniele with rocket and burrata.

When you’re done, why not head over to the pool and bar area for a Negroni. After all, what’s that saying? When in Rome…
