The return of 180 House

Power breakfasts, 1970s dinners, and a line-up of stellar events (including a Gilles Peterson House Party). Check out what’s happening at our newest club in the capital now that it’s officially back open

The ongoing debate continues over what we’re calling this current shift that we’re all experiencing: The Age of Opulence? The Age of Overstatement? Maybe even The Age of the Overdraft. Either way, if we can be sure of anything, it’s that there is a buzzy energy in the air now that the UK’s COVID-19 restrictions have been officially lifted.
The city is readying itself for its return, and at the centre of it all is our towering new House at 180 The Strand. Scroll down to see what’s on.

Power breakfasts
Breakfast is the real power hour for success. Away from the bustle of lunchtime service or the alcohol offered at dinner, it’s prime time to seal the deal. And where better to do it than over panoramic views of the sprawling megapolis?
Arguably a result of this collective shift we’re currently going through, breakfast these days has transformed into something quite different to its usual incarnation of austere porridge and oats, or desk-side cereal (leave that in lockdown, please). In 2022, it’s had an haute makeover. It’s exquisite looking and Instagram ready. You’ll want to spend time tucking into our coconut and mango chia seed bowls, flaky pastries and freshly made breakfast baps. Have you heard about our breakfast deal, too? Order a club breakfast or eggs any style with a juice and hot drink for £9. How could you resist?

Laissez-faire lunches
Lunch used to be not just a means of sustenance, but a thing of legend – made up of drawn-out catch-ups over fine wine and three courses. And after two years in lockdown, we’re eager to bring back this bon vivant way of eating. Plus, with the office only a Slack message away, there’s no need to rush back, right?
Settle into our in-house restaurant and enjoy one of our House Regulars: Mac and Cheese that’s thick with Scamorza cheese and chunky lobster, Spicy Salami Pizza, or a towering Dirty Burger layered with cheddar and beef. If you’re there between 12pm and 3pm, go for the lunch combo: choose any two from a selection of soups, salads and pizzette for £12. Yes, you read that right.

1970s dinners
Impressing a new acquaintance? Spoiling your long-term lover? Or simply want to tuck into something special with friends? Try our 1970s dishes at 180’s in-house restaurants. They call it the decade that taste forgot, but we think that’s unfair. It was a period of decadent, rich culinary masterpieces that were as much a feast for the eyes as they were the stomach.
Standout dishes include the Mushroom Vol Au Vent – a fluffy puff pastry filled with duxelles and sauteed wild mushrooms that’s garnished with shaved black truffle and arrives with a side of vol au vent cream. Then there’s the melt-in-your-mouth Steak Tartare and the Salmon En Croute, which comes wrapped in crisp pastry with a light creamed leek and watercress sauce. Book a corner table where the view on the plate is just as impressive as the view out of the window.

Events
It’s a bumper month for events at 180 House. This weekend, legendary DJ, broadcaster and record collector, Gilles Peterson, will be taking over the ninth-floor club space with an all-vinyl set that will last until the small hours. There’s also a Future First gig with blues and jazz singer, Eleni Drake (we’re predicting big things), as well as an intimate performance with spoken word poet, artist and novelist, Kae Tempest. Name a better place to get your culture fix, we dare you.

Soho Works 180 The Strand
Even before the pandemic, the world of work was slowly but surely undergoing a quiet revolution. A whole new breed of freelancers and employees were rebranding themselves as digital nomads: setting up shop on the road, at fancy new co-working spaces or remote faraway locations. Now, as entire industries race to adapt to a world without offices, the revolution is everywhere. Our Soho Works space is spread over two floors at 180 The Strand, and fitted with communal office zones, private meeting rooms, hubs, and its very own cafe.

After a long day of meetings, head upstairs and decompress over a Picante or two. How’s that for work-life balance? (You can thank us later).
