Around the Houses: September in the UK, EU, and Asia

What better way to send off summer than with some poolside parties under the last of the sun’s rays? In London, drag superstar Bimini Bon-Boulash and dancer Dosa Cat led the Pride celebrations, while menswear designer Bianca Saunders kicked off fashion week with a party at Soho Works, 180 The Strand. There was magic in Mumbai, courtesy of Drummond Money-Coutts, and a complete takeover of Soho House Hong Kong by Cantonese pop star, Alex Lam. And in Spain, Latin Grammy winner Mala Rodríguez kicked off La Mercè celebrations at Soho House Barcelona. Scroll down for all of the action.

Drummond Money-Coutts’ magic show, Soho House Mumbai 

Members fell under the spell of magician and card shark, Drummond Money-Coutts, during his Up-Close show at Soho House Mumbai last month. Guests such as Bollywood executive, Caleb Franklin, sipped on Martinis as they watched him perform a hat-trick of stunts and card magic in the House’s plush cinema room. ‘It was a very special evening,’ he told us after the show, before disappearing into the courtyard for a Picante.

St-Germain’s Pride party at Shoreditch House, London 

The capital’s parade and street parties may have been cancelled this year, but that didn’t stop St-Germain from bringing the spirit of Pride to Shoreditch House. Phoebe Dynevor, stylist Harry Lambert, Jack Guinness and Alexa Chung sipped on L’Exotique cocktails and danced from dusk till dawn to music by Mahatma Khandi, Kiki, and Barbs. Drag artist Tayce was spotted in the crowd, too – out to support fellow RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, Bimini Bon-Boulash, during their iconic lip-synch performance. God save this queen!

Honey Dijon at Shoreditch House, London

Honey Dijon turned up the heat at Shoreditch House as autumn approached. The centre of the action was the roof terrace, where east London’s finest gathered to soak up the superstar DJ’s eclectic mix of electro, house, jazz, and disco. Guests included creative director Olivier Geraghty and Soho House Chief Creative Officer, Nabil Aliffi.

Bianca Saunders’ fashion week party at Soho Works, 180 The Strand 

Menswear designer Bianca Saunders kicked off fashion week in London with a party at Soho Works, 180 The Strand. It was also an opportunity for the Brit to celebrate her recent success as a finalist for LMVH’s coveted Young Designer Award. The guest list included British rapper Sainté, singer-songwriter Priya Ragu, model and poet Kai-Isaiah Jamal, and photographer Campbell Addy, who toasted the young designer with Bacardí cocktails such as Rum Punch and a Coconut Old Fashioned. There was a potent line-up of music too, with sets by Benji B, Kemarr, and Aletha Vandross.

Alex Lam’s Good Vibrations party at Soho House Hong Kong 

Hong Kong’s bright young things came together for Cantonese singer Alex Lam’s Good Vibrations takeover party, which was part of the House’s two-year anniversary celebrations. ‘Hong Kong rep-re-sent!’ he shouted, before inviting DJs Chef Topher, Whizz and Coverdog, plus singer Azucar Latina onto the stage. Elsewhere, there was a DIY tie-dye station and CBD beer up for grabs. ‘The night was ideal,’ Lam told us afterwards. ‘It’s been so long since we’ve had live music and performances in Hong Kong.’ 

ASAP NAST at 180 House, London 

At 180 House, the guest list for ASAP NAST’s lock-in read like a who’s who of industry greats: British grime sensation Skepta, PR queen Ella Dror, Ivan Michael Blackstock, Josiah Sampson, and model Alexa Wong. Nast, who was over from Harlem during fashion week, did the rounds while Atlanta’s finest, DJ Ciesay, provided the music.

Soho Presents: Mala Rodríguez, Soho House Barcelona 

Following her recent success at the Latin Grammys, Spanish hip-hop artist Mala Rodríguez started feast day celebrations for La Mercè early at Soho House Barcelona, serving guests acoustic versions of songs from her eponymous album, Mala, which she released during lockdown. Sure, restrictions meant that everyone had to remain seated, but that didn’t stop the crowd from having a good time. There wasn’t a dry eye in the House as she closed the set with her hit single, ‘La Niña’.
