Check out the band member and Nashville local's photographs that helped him form a relationship with the city

I moved to Nashville for the second time in the spring of 2015. During my first go around 15 years prior, I made lasting friendships and ongoing creative partnerships that proved fruitful years later. When I moved back, the city had changed a great deal, as it has continued to do in the seven years I've been back. During those initial years, I was on the road a lot, but when not travelling, I’d hunker down in my East Nashville neighbourhood.

In March 2020 when COVID-19 hit, I found myself sent home from a tour with a lot of time on my hands and a head full of uncertainty. This led me to pick up my camera and return to film photography after an almost 10-year hiatus.

In the early days of the pandemic, I began to explore Nashville in solitary, meditative excursions, taking photographs in quiet corners of the city that were foreign to me. The images featured here reflect this, as my relationship with it evolved. Through these wanderings, I formed a deeper, more intimate connection with this place. Though the photographs may hold a sense of melancholy or decay on the surface, I find beauty in these details of a city that still carries a certain language of its past.
