Even regular visitors to the white sandy beaches of Barbados or Antigua’s crystal-clear waters might struggle to point to Canouan on a map. In contrast to its world-renowned island neighbours, this tiny five sq m tropical paradise has managed to remain the Caribbean’s best-kept secret. And Soho Beach House Canouan is the ultimate hideaway destination. Ready to be transported? Here’s everything you need to know.

Located in the Grenadines archipelago, roughly halfway between St Vincent and Grenada, Canouan is remote and exclusive – and that’s what makes it special. It can be reached by plane or boat, with short connecting flights from the nearby hubs of St Vincent and Barbados. A complimentary fast-track service is available to all members travelling through Barbados, and the Soho Beach House Canouan team can help with booking connecting flights, private charters or overnight stays en route if required.

Once there, you won’t need a car. Airport transfers are taken care of and you’ll be driven to the House, which is just a 10-minute drive away. (Or, if you’re arriving by sea, you’ll be met at the Beach House jetty for welcome drinks and help with your luggage.) The club occupies a prime location on the island’s west coast Grand Bay beach, close to the village of Charlestown. Take a stroll down to meet local artisans, pick up handmade souvenirs, or listen to a steel pan band practicing near the church on weekends.

The House itself features 40 bright and airy bedrooms inside white wooden buildings with traditional blue tin roofs. There’s also a spa offering relaxing treatments, plus a two-level fitness studio with weekly yoga and Pilates classes. When it’s time to refuel, choose from an all-day House menu served in the dining palapa, with House Regulars and local Caribbean food cooked on the wood-fired grill, all served with views of the Caribbean Sea. The Terrace Bar, which is a few steps away from the beach, serves drinks and post-swim snacks, and the Jetty can be booked for special dining experiences on the deck under the stars.

Whether your holiday consists of unwinding or exploring, the island caters to everyone. Canouan means ‘island of turtles’ in Arawak, and you’re sure to spot red-footed tortoises and green sea turtles during your trip. You’ll also find some of the best coral reefs the Caribbean has to offer. Visit Petit Tabac to roam the deserted island featured in some of the most iconic Pirates Of The Caribbean film scenes, or hike to Mount Royal’s highest peak at sunrise and be rewarded with panoramic views across the Grenadines, neighbouring Mustique and, perhaps, even spot a whale or two.

Then again, it’s easy to while away a day (or week) at the House, soaking up the sun on a lounger with the sand in your toes and a cold cocktail in hand. Book a massage with tropical botanicals in our open-air treatment hut, or have a go at palm weaving or rum blending at one of our House-led masterclasses. Head down early for sunrise yoga or a solo morning dip when the beach is deserted.

In our House Kitchen, the local Catch of the Day is always a standout dish, often grilled and served with island herbs or citrus-infused sauces, or try the Caribbean Lobster Linguine or Jerk Chicken Tacos for a Soho House twist on island staples, washed down with a Rum Punch or Sorrel Negroni. Ask the bartender for a Canouan Cooler – a refreshing off-menu rum cocktail the locals love – or a Fresh Coconut Water served straight from the husk at the beach.

Other local treats to try include Bake and Shark (a Trinidad-inspired street snack), Callaloo Soup (made with leafy greens and often flavoured with crab), Breadfruit Fries or Cassava Chips, and Soursop Juice or Mauby (a bitter-sweet local bark drink).

Spoilt for choice? Follow our local expert and Soho Beach House Canouan General Manager, Angelo Marconi, with his ultimate four-step itinerary for first-time visitors:

1. Sunset at South Glossy Bay
‘The kind of sunset that pauses time: a secluded stretch of sand framed by palm trees, golden light, and the occasional yacht silhouetted on the horizon.’
Insider tip: Bring a bottle of rosé and stay past golden hour – the stars here are outrageous.

2. Snorkeling with turtles in the Tobago Cays
‘Just 30 minutes away by boat, this marine park is jaw-dropping. Shallow waters, vibrant coral, and sea turtles swimming beside you – no filter needed.’
Insider tip: Book a private charter and bring a GoPro. Add a grilled lobster lunch at Alfonso’s for the full experience.

3. Hike to Mount Royal for a 360° view
‘A 45-minute trek rewards you with sweeping views over the Grenadines chain. The kind of view that makes you feel tiny, in the best way.’
Insider tip: Go just after sunrise with a coffee. You’ll have the whole island at your feet.

4. Private beach dinner under the stars
‘Whether it’s a proposal, anniversary or just because, there’s nothing like dining barefoot in the sand, with tiki torches and waves as your soundtrack.’
Insider tip: Book through the House and request fresh lobster grilled over local wood.

‘…Just remember, if you only do one thing, don’t over-plan. Canouan is a place where doing nothing is often the best plan of all.’
