Shoreditch House was the first of our London Houses to welcome our izakaya-style Japanese restaurant Pen Yen to the capital almost five years ago, and it’s remained a favourite with members and guests ever since. Now, the restaurant has got that ‘fresh opening’ buzz all over again with its biggest menu refresh since opening.

One look at the menu, which includes food served from the robata grill along with buns, sushi, sashimi and more, and it’s not hard to see why: Lobster Miso Soup, Wagyu Beef Tartare with kizami and rice crackers, and Katsu Japanese Aubergine with black garlic and chilli are just some of the highlights on offer. Others include Pork Gyoza with XO and tosazu, a Black Angus Sirloin Bowl served with fried rice and a soy-cured egg, Yellowtail Tostada with jalapeno and lime, and Otoro dressed with extra virgin olive oil and Maldon salt.

On the dessert front, you can enjoy the Half-Baked Cookie with miso caramel ice cream and Baked Cheesecake with salted plums. And did we mention the view? The House offers one of the best of the City from Pen Yen’s floor-to-ceiling windows.

After you’ve finished eating, why not try one of the cocktails. We’d recommend the Pen Yen Gibson – which elevates the classic with umami syrup and daikon strips for a savoury, lightly spiced finish – and the sparkling saké-topped Tainted Margarita. Then, settle in by the rooftop pool and enjoy that view.
