For the next edition of the series on our North American Houses' Instagram feeds, Meet the Members, where we get to know some of the members around our Houses, we meet members who work in food and design.

NEW YORK: Marissa Mullen

Marissa Mullen is the founder of That Cheese Plate, "a centralized hub for cheese plate inspiration."

How long have you been a member?
Since January 2019. I left my office job at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to run That Cheese Plate full time. Soho House is the perfect amount of chill and structure for me to work during the day.
What’s your favorite spot in your House and why?
The beauty of freelance life comes with making your own schedule. If I know I'm going to be teaching a cheese plate workshop over the weekend or traveling for work, I'll use a weekday to take advantage of the less crowded Dumbo House pool (on a daybed, specifically). I've also spent countless hours at the house writing my cookbook (coming out in 2020!) - I love sitting by the big windows looking out at the skyline and Manhattan bridge.
What was the last thing you made yourself?
A cheese plate, naturally. I spent a lot of my time content creating for brands and my accounts, @ThatCheesePlate and @CheeseByNumbers. I always invite my friends over afterwards to devour the creations. Cheese plates are a form of art and self expression with the added bonus of bringing people together!
Architecturally-speaking, what’s your favorite building in the city?
I'm truly a big fan of the Dumbo House building. I enjoy seeing old factories morph into bright, colorful and open spaces. Always love classic structure with modern interiors.

Michael Dolatowski is creative director and founding partner of design firm Deft Union.

What’s your favorite spot in your local House and why?
The penthouse! I hosted my 30th birthday there and it was an epic night that I'll never forget.
Has there been a specific event at the House that you’ve loved?
Lately the night swims have been my favorite. There is always a magical vibe that gets set off.  But also the figure drawing class that made me super nostalgic for design school.
Aside from Soho House, what’s a place in Miami where you’ll always take a visitor?
To Wynwood and Design District. The contrast to the beach and the real urbanist areas of Miami are definitely unexpected for a first time visitor. I love to challenge people's assumptions about our little beach town.
What was the last thing you made yourself?
A schematic design plan for a new retail concept we are pitching in the Design District. Fingers crossed.
Architecturally-speaking, what’s your favorite building in the city?
The PAMM by Herzog and de Meuron. They are masters of contextual design. The museum was timeless from the day it opened.

LOS ANGELES: Sophie Monet

Sophie Monet is the founder and designer of her eponymous jewelry line.
What’s your favorite spot in your local House and why?

I love grabbing a seat along the edge of the patio, kicking off my shoes and taking in the sandy stretch of coastline whilst feeling like you're floating just above the water.
Has there been a specific event at the House that you’ve loved?
I really love attending the speaker series that feature female creatives and entrepreneurs. I recently received some great advice from Andrea Liberman of ALC at the trends and Trailblazers event. Hearing their stories about the quest for success inspire and encourage me to have my own voice in the space and is a great way to meet likeminded women in my community.
Aside from Soho House and the place you live, what’s the place in this city that makes it feel like home?
One of the best ways to find inspiration is by taking a day trip to a new neighborhood. It can refresh my headspace and bring about new ideas instantly. For me it’s any place close to the water or the mountains.
What was the last thing you made yourself?
A pair of baroque pearl and wood earrings to wear on my wedding day.

CHICAGO: Alex Brown

Alex Brown is a celebrity hairstylist and owner of a private studio in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood.

What do you love about this city?
The noticeable difference in neighborhoods and the community of sports teams.
What’s one of your favorite looks you’ve created for a client?
It’s hard to choose just one, but I love a good Old Hollywood glam brushed-out waves look.
Is there a hair trend you’d like to see go away? Or conversely, is there a hair trend you wished more people would try?
I love natural colors and hair textures right now, whether it’s your natural color at the root with slight balayage through the ends, or wild curly/wavy hair. I wish more people would embrace their natural hair; I find that the closer you keep it to your natural, the more healthy and beautiful your hair will be.
Anything else you’d like to share about yourself and your work?
After moving back to Chicago from LA two years ago, I opened a hair studio right here in the West Loop where I cut and style; check it out on Alexbrownhair.com.
