Meet the Members: October edition
NEW YORK: Marissa Mullen

Marissa Mullen is the founder of That Cheese Plate, "a centralized hub for cheese plate inspiration."
How long have you been a member?
Since January 2019. I left my office job at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to run That Cheese Plate full time. Soho House is the perfect amount of chill and structure for me to work during the day.
What’s your favorite spot in your House and why?
The beauty of freelance life comes with making your own schedule. If I know I'm going to be teaching a cheese plate workshop over the weekend or traveling for work, I'll use a weekday to take advantage of the less crowded Dumbo House pool (on a daybed, specifically). I've also spent countless hours at the house writing my cookbook (coming out in 2020!) - I love sitting by the big windows looking out at the skyline and Manhattan bridge.
What was the last thing you made yourself?
A cheese plate, naturally. I spent a lot of my time content creating for brands and my accounts, @ThatCheesePlate and @CheeseByNumbers. I always invite my friends over afterwards to devour the creations. Cheese plates are a form of art and self expression with the added bonus of bringing people together!
Architecturally-speaking, what’s your favorite building in the city?
I'm truly a big fan of the Dumbo House building. I enjoy seeing old factories morph into bright, colorful and open spaces. Always love classic structure with modern interiors.
MIAMI: Michael Dolatowski

What’s your favorite spot in your local House and why?
LOS ANGELES: Sophie Monet

What’s your favorite spot in your local House and why?
CHICAGO: Alex Brown

What do you love about this city?
The noticeable difference in neighborhoods and the community of sports teams.
What’s one of your favorite looks you’ve created for a client?
It’s hard to choose just one, but I love a good Old Hollywood glam brushed-out waves look.
Is there a hair trend you’d like to see go away? Or conversely, is there a hair trend you wished more people would try?
I love natural colors and hair textures right now, whether it’s your natural color at the root with slight balayage through the ends, or wild curly/wavy hair. I wish more people would embrace their natural hair; I find that the closer you keep it to your natural, the more healthy and beautiful your hair will be.
Anything else you’d like to share about yourself and your work?
After moving back to Chicago from LA two years ago, I opened a hair studio right here in the West Loop where I cut and style; check it out on Alexbrownhair.com.
