Discover some of the familiar faces from our Miami houses, in celebration of 20 years of Soho House in North America

Tuesday 5 September 2023   By Soho House

This year, we’re celebrating 20 years since the opening of our very first House in North America: Soho House New York. Throwing open its doors in the Meatpacking District two decades ago, the club led the charge for our other US Houses that followed – including Soho Beach House Miami.

Situated in a 1940s tower overlooking Miami Beach, Soho Beach House is a hub for creatives who come together to enjoy the city’s sights, design heritage and vibrant cultural scene. As part of our We Are campaign, we’re shining a light on some of those creatives; members who represent the energy of the House and help to make it such a special place.

Here, we meet the Miami-based stars of our We Are campaign to discover just what makes Soho Beach House so unique, and where you’re most likely to catch them in the club.

Director of exhibitions at Faena Art and founder of Soho Beach House Miami Art Club

How long have you been a member?
‘Over eight years now – and I created the Art Club almost three years ago.’

Why is Soho House special to you? And what makes Soho Beach House Miami unique?
‘The sense of exploration. When people come together, we all benefit from digging deeper into our collective and individual curiosities. Soho Beach House is unique for so many obvious reasons – like the beach – but what really stands out to me is this ability to access so many interesting people and institutions throughout the city, and collaborate through the programming that the House can offer. Miami is a big “small town”, and Soho House is a great place to meet and learn from each other.’

How do you spend your time at Soho House? Any standout moments?
‘I’m mostly at the House during Art Club events when we host artist talks and workshops. And while sometimes we’re off-site at museums, galleries and artist studios, we’re still in the Soho House mode together. Everyone who participates is interested in learning more about arts and culture in some capacity, and that creates an almost immediate bond between members. I love seeing people get their hands dirty during artist workshops. I also enjoy going for lunch or dinner with friends. You can’t beat Cecconi’s for its food and vibe.’

Why is Soho House special to you? And what makes Soho Beach House Miami so unique?
‘I love the community aspect. In a city like Miami, where there is so much tourism and change, Soho Beach House has consistently been my anchor to connect with others in the city. Of course, nothing compares to the beautiful ocean of Miami, either.’

How do you spend your time at Soho House? Any standout moments?
‘The time I spend at the House can look very different. Sometimes I’ll opt for wellness days, sometimes it’ll be sociable late nights. That’s what makes it so special – no two days are ever the same.’

How long have you been a member?
‘I’ve been a proud member since 2017.’

Why is Soho House special to you? And what makes Soho Beach House Miami so unique?
‘It represents ease and self-care. As a Black person and a Hispanic person, it’s really important to have this type of luxury, if not for anything else, for balance in this human experience. Life is beautiful, and also hard, so having a place where I can have privacy, connections, beauty, ease, rest, play and work is super special.

‘Honestly, we do it fly at Soho Beach House Miami. Members really get to know each other and we collaborate. I love the programming and how they get involved with it on both sides. The House is also huge; I love taking a staycation in the beautiful bedrooms.’

How do you spend your time at Soho House? Any standout moments?
‘I spend time relaxing, eating, and introducing folks to the House. I love helping people to see the value of a space like this. My standout moment was being asked to start the first Juneteenth event there. We created something that honours folks in the community and artists in the most fun, cool and celebratory way. This was our third year celebrating it, and we had our largest turnout yet. More than 250 people came out and celebrated community leaders, art and our culture. There has now been a plethora of events at various Houses during this time since then – that’s magic.’
