Our founder pays tribute to Her Majesty the Queen | Soho House

It was with great sadness that I learned of Her Majesty the Queen’s passing yesterday, at the age of 96. The Queen lived a life dedicated in its entirety to public service, but she was also a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to the nation, and my thoughts go out to her family.

As much as the Queen will be remembered around the world for her extraordinary dedication to her people, I will also remember Her Majesty as a great champion of creativity. In her 70 years on the British throne the Queen became patron of a number of theatres, including London’s National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as cultural institutions such as the Royal Academy of Arts – which is famed for supporting young artists at the beginning of their careers.

Soho House was founded 42 years into the Queen’s reign, and while she never visited our Houses, there is something, I think, that feels closely interlinked between her very British creative spirit and our own.

In our own way, let’s recognise Her Majesty’s incredible duty and service.

She will be sorely missed,

Nick
